Yeah they seem to be that way. Only small issue is their 4000 cycle rating. The EVE K range cells have a 6000 cycle rating. Time will tell I guess.

Awesome. I'm very happy with my cells. I've run 3 full cycles and very happy. Paired with the v3 seplos BMS(update firmware) and it's great. 6mv deviation at 100% soc. Seplos default voltages seem rather conservative tho, what voltages are you going to settle with? I mean high voltage alarm, high voltage protection etc

I keep my settings conservative. 

Cell high voltage alarm 3.45V

Cell high voltage protection 3.5V

Pack high voltage alarm 55.2V

Pack high voltage protection 56V

Going higher is really not worth the tiny extra bit of capacity.

Do you guys recommend these? Been communicating with Candice / Apex for a couple of months now, after getting hold of them through Alibaba.

I'm looking to buy 16 x 280AH cells (paired with v3 seplos) since they have stock at their Kempton Park warehouse @ $97/pc.

So roughly ~R30 000 for ~15kWh

The EVE cells are one of the best. Also these cells are grade A. To good of a deal to pass up on.

What would a total build like this cost, including a BMS and a battery case which houses the cells and all the busbars etc. Lets say either (230AH or 280AH cells x 16) and a BMS compatible with SunSynk 5Kw inverter.

I'm not 100% sure on cost. But $97 per cell and $600 for the DIY box which includes everything. You can build a R100k battery for R50k

Okay, also don't you need all the charging and balancing equipment if you build your own battery? Would be a nice project.

And that's a battery with best of the best cells. Guaranteed Grade A brand new. Many of the better priced retail batteries are using unknown cells and some are 2nd life cells. You just need a little bit of basic electrical knowledge to build your DIY 15kw battery

Basic power supplies and even old style transformer car charger can be used to charge 4 at a time until you do top balancing. Then a good custom adjustable BMS can do the final balancing before a DIY is put into service. 

Where do you guys get your cells and other equipment locally. I don't want to deal with Alibaba and Aliexpress would only buy from someone local who has sold to a few people on this forum.

The cells come well balanced already. And the bms is capable of balancing albeit a little slow. But cp69 put his together and had only a 6mV difference which is perfect. Can slap your battery together in a couple hours.

Could be so but below 60% SOC. To get large capacity cells to 3.6V to balance at the top end does take a lot of time. More so as you want to charge at a low rate and for sure not 0.5-1C but rather 0.2C or even 0.1C. Then you want to deep discharge and recharge a few times before putting into service. 

Just how I think and what I have done.

I have found the seplos BMS to do a pretty good job at top balancing if keeping the pack at 100% SOC until its done. It has a process called intermittent charge/discharge once it hits 100% SOC and before dropping below 96% SOC. It uses small current constantly. Between 1A and 6A and continually balances. 

Provided the cells start out reasonably in balance that is.

They have an offset point in Kempton Park now, however you still need to pay via SWIFT in Dollars to their Chinese company.

PayPal and alibaba pay is an option I believe. Try use alibaba. PayPal fees are ridiculous.

you can just directly EFT from your bank. This is the proforma they sent me yesterday. You can remove shipping and use your own (from JHB). $176 US for local shipping is a bit steep.

edit: i do noticed now the line item shows "230" and not "280ah", I will have to e-mail them. (and i see they have the 304AH cells now)
