Does anyone know if it is possible to limit the full charge state on batteries (both off grid and off solar)? we are repeatedly told that we should discharge below a certain point (around 20%), but on cars (and on laptops) we are also told not to fully charge the batteries. It also seems to take a disproportionate time (and therefore input of energy) to get from 95% to 100%. So I was thinking of limiting the max charge state so that export to grid happen sooner (and that when charging from grid I don't use the last 5% or so). my goal is to use the batteries between 20% and 90% - which range they will charge much faster than waiting for 100% charge before exporting to the grid and yes - I am using spot pricing (fancy time of use) to minimise my bills over winter (or at least I am trying to ) anyone tried this ? ok some more fiddling, if I only switch one of the batteries on - it shows a 20A charge and 51amp discharge (ie. half what is shown above. and some more asking around has someone in another group suggesting it's temperature related and that the BMS limits charge/discharge rates when it's cold. The suggested values are if Temp < 12c your restricted to around 1KW per battery Else if Temp < 5c your restricted to around around 200W per battery kinda makes sense - but does undermine the use as a EPS or UPS supply when the weather is shite!

I will admit that I didn't know if that bit was correct (it was the bit I thought looked wrong!) and you ask good questions - to which I don't know the answers. I paid installers to set this up and therefore don't really know what to check. as far as I can tell it's all correctly installed - but I'd suggest it clearly isn't as it's not performing quite right! so - Quick question (I think) - would you expect that last LiBms page to show either multiple batteries, or a cumulative set of ratings ? it didn't scroll to a 2nd battery when I pressed the up/down buttons and I guess another question - anyone know if I can mix battery manufacturers ? could I add a Pylontech one to the 2 Sunsynk ones I have ? (assuming all are 50V 100AH) for instance?

uhm, I attach 4 pics - it looks (to my uneducated eye) as though it's being limited by the 'spec' information being provided by the BMS - which says a list of 40amp for charging. Only thing is that should be per battery not total for the battery bank (I think) the 3 pics are the charging setting screens and the BMS information that I think might be contributing. The 4th pic is of the installation clearly showing 2 batteries Thanks for looking and any suggestions Mark

Which Solar Panels combo is best for my Sunsynk 8kw Inverter
be wary of Eurener panels - they are low voltage but higher current (30v and 18 amps) meaning you cannot add Tigo Solar Optimisers if you need to cope with shading! Although it does mean I can put 14 in a single string. I got caught out - ordered JA Solar and planned around that, delivery turned out with Eurener panels and needed a complete redesign

So, I was looking at the config of my system - it's a Sunsynk 8.8 inverter and a pair of Sunsynk 5Kwh batteries. Watching the system charging off the grid (and it's done the same from Solar on the few days we've had enough sunshine) - I don't seem to see it putting more than 2Kw into the batteries at any time. for 50V batteries I reckon that's 40amps. I went digging as I was expecting the system to charge a bit faster than that -so went looking at settings. - I've set the battery charge and discharge to 100amps in the settings (which is only 50amps from each battery - so didn't seem extreme). - The System mode shows 8000W in the slot for the timing I am looking at. I couldn't see any other settings in the app that looked relevant. So went looking at the Inverter itself and the front screen and the LiIon BMS battery page says 40amp as a max charge rate - but it's only talking to 1 battery, so is that overriding the setup ? I really want to make sure that when the sun comes back I can store as much of the power generated as possible. selling to the grid should be last resort for the system as I pay 3 times as much for import and I earn for export. Any idea what I should look at ? the BMS should report 40amps for each battery (2 in parallel for my 10Kwh bank) Thanks

@chris2172 my inverter came with a Sunsynk dongle rather than the solar man one, but I was following the kellerza project on hconnecting to Home Assistant (which looks awesome !) https://github.com/kellerza/sunsynk and was thinking to get one of the RS485 devices mentioned there (much cheaper on AliExpress!) @iiznh I was planning to get a USB630 RS485 to wifi device (cheaper than a pior a laptop) as my HA install is in a different building! and whilst the ToD tariff does't change minute by minute -they release pricing in 30min blocks 24 hours ahead - so I think I need to be able to alter the schedule daily - and I don't trust the Sunsynk cloud service (it's not connected reliably yet!). So - do you know if I can have the Sunsynk dongle connected to the RS232 connection at the same time as something else connected to the RS485 connection at the same time ? (is it either/or or and) are both conections active at the same time ? and thanks for the welcome

new install and noobie
Hi I've just had an install done and am interested in getting the most from it. I am in the UK (so all the North/South/East/West and summer/winter discussions need interpolation ) but have just completed an install - I'm wanting to learn so I can get the most of it and za seem to have a lot of deployments we can learn from ! so - my system is 19 x 410W panels - in 2 strings (8 and 11) connected to a Sunsynk 8.8 Hybrid Inverter. I also have 2 x 5KW Sunsynk batteries installed and unusually for the UK have also implemented the EPS function. My house faces 170 degrees - and the 8 panel string is facing south and the 11 East (for morning Sun). So far the system has wiped about 75% of my electric usage out - which is quite pleasing as it's the depths of winter with short days (sun - if we get any - rises about 8am, and disappears about 4pm) so I think that's pretty good. the main bit I've not got into yet - my electricity provider runs a time of day tariff, and a dynamic version of that that involves spot rate pricing. I fancy trying to link some home automation that with the goal of being able to program off peak limited charging and export based around the weather with their dynamic pricing . so lots to go for - and I think lots to learn Mark

My Sunsynk 8Kw & data collection setup
Hi, just reading through this thread and what you have achieve is brilliant quick question though - is the RS485 connection active at the same time as the RS232 that is used by the supplied wifi dongle ? I want to replicate what you are doing and I really like having local control and not being dependant on distant cloud based services and so wondered if it was an 'either/or' or whether I can have my cake and eat it - and have both at the same time ?
