  1. Hi all, a few years later and happy with hot water from my solar tubes - I now have to trim a tree casting a shadow on my tubes until 11 am. Regarding the flow of direction through the pump - when the flow direction is from bottom of geyser to top, it may be possible to draw cold water from the bottom of the geyser through the manifold if one opens the warm water tap. If the whole geyser is at the same temp. it does not matter if manifold is hot, but when you have hot water at the top of geyser, and cold at the bottom or manifold is cold, the above may happen.
  2. Thanks. That makes sense.
  3. Hi all Our evac 15 tube solar collector has been working well for years(not so good in winter), but I have the problem in the sense that the 12v dc pump connected to small 12v solar panel keeps on circulating until late afternoon(or while partly cloudy) when there is not enough sun to heat up the tubes, but enough sun to keep the pump going. I am worried that I may loose some of the heat accumulated during the day due to losses, although pipes are insulated. What would be the best way to stop the pump when sun is not sufficient to heat the tubes? Install thermostat/thermal switch in the manifold to control the pump? I have a retrofit geyser, i.e. tubes on roof, geyser downstairs.
  4. Hi all, I have axpert clone(5star) without internal bond relay. My question relates to external bond relay activation. I use solar panels, no simple activation of bond relay contact(no) when eskom drops out. Will it be ok to a) connect bond relay coil in parallel with bypass relay coil(not sure if driver transistor can handle 2 coils in parallel) or b) get signal from before driver transistor of bypass relay and employ my own (2n3906 or cmos? ) transistor for activation of bond relay - should there be a delay (500ms?) after activation/deactivation of bypass relay?(rc timing needed) I was wondering if b), if there is a way to pick up signal from control board (CN11?) without having to take out main board. You thoughts will be appreciated.
  5. Hi all, I reversed my old 5star fans to blow upwards 2 years ago when I replaced a few bulging caps at power supply which sits at top left corner of main board. Not sure why they designed to suck air down, could it be to get hot air away from the psu's electrolytic caps at the top as they degrade faster under high temp? Your thoughts will be appreciated.
  6. Hi all, I have changed the electrolytic caps in 5star inv. at 5,12,-12v psu about 2 years ago due to display cycling on/off. I also turned around the fans to blow up instead of sucking down. 2 years later, error 03 bat. high voltage(120 v on lcd) Busy sourcing new caps with low esr high ripple current(used for switching psu's) - any idea where to source? Rabtron sent quotation.but not much info, only that it's either Rubycon or Hitano 105deg. Hopefully new caps will solve error 03, if not I am planning to take inv. to megavolt for quotation. My question is , if changing fan direction could have pre-maturely dried out the caps - hot air from heat sinks blown upwards over the caps instead.of sucking down.?
  7. few years on.. Hi all, I have 48v 5kw fivestar working well for last 3 years. Last night we had eskom.power failure, inverter ran until.bat. voltage dropped to 45.5v. at 1am. No way I can restart the inv., - error 03. I managed to charge bat. direct from pv through series resistor at 10A ( but not much sun today.) Bat. voltage currently at 48.6v. What should min. startup voltage be? Or did eskom break my inv. when power went off at 1am? Same thing happened a few weeks ago but I managed to restart inv. after a few tries - I do not remember what bat . voltage was.
  8. It seems I have one of the older axperts without auto bonding when in inverter mode. Some said to connect a bonding relay to ac in, and deactivate the bonding relay when in ac mode. My axpert runs in battery mode (island) while ac in, is still connected . (sbu mode) By connecting a relay to ac in will not cause the inverter to disbond neutral from earth.(my axpert's dry contacts does not change either, no matter in which mode). Will it not be better to use a ct (current switch) to drive the bonding relay? This way, only when ac in current flows (threshold can be set on current switch - i.e. when ac in is connected to ac out) can bonding relay be changed to reflect bonding at load centre.

  10. When I was involved in electronic design, gold plating edge connectors was the standard as it is much more corrosion resistant and has lower contact resistance. And that was for indoor use. Does anyone know if there is a supplier who sells gold plated mc4 crimp connectors?
  11. The svolt bat. soh dropped from 100 to 88 recently after 18 months and 145 cycles. Discharged to 70 perc. mostly. Cells balanced within 10mv . Could this be a bms calibration fault as I do not think soh should go down this much after 18 months of moderate use.
  12. I have the 15 cell 48v 5.1kw svolt. Occasionally current draw is high for a few minutes(50a) but generally not higher than 20a. Also never charge more than 20a. The bat is 18 months old, cycles stand at 140. For the last month, soh went down from 100% to 88%. Is that normal, what could have caused it? The occasional high current discharge? I am trying to work out how long this bat. may last.
  13. We had same problem. Back pressure from mixer/shower head causes temperature fluctuations. I opened the shower head and removed all restricters(little filter with a lot of tiny holes at supply line)
  14. Does anyone have a (Chinese) soft starter module for sale, I do not wish to wait a few months for delivery from Ali express. I have a 1kw single phase borehole pump - startup current too high for my inverter. Can contact me at [email protected] Thanks. Koos.
