Cheap Single-Phase Motor Soft Starter Module

Featured Replies

Greetings good people,

Has anyone used one of these cheap Chinese soft starter modules on pump motor running off a solar inverter?

The modules are SCR based with adjustable soft-start time and voltage (0-30 seconds, 150-250Vac). There's no integrated bypass contactor.

I want to consider using one instead of a VFD to run a 1.5kW (2hp, 10.8A full load current, 35A starting current) single-phase submersible pump off a 5kW Deye hybrid.

A photo of such a module with its heatsink is attached. Thank you.

That soft starter is for 3 phase.

Not if you see it only has 4 wires. Not 6 as per the picture below the post. 2 are marked input and 2 output.. This is then wired through to the pump.

I'll give it a go based on the number of positive reviews I've read on AE. Shall definitely feedback after installation.

Any update on how the soft starter worked?

Hello @Jack007. I ended up getting a different series by the same manufacturer. The slightly more advanced version is branded Noker and comes with a built-in bypass contactor, comprehensive motor protection functions and optional Modbus communication. Working like a charm!

We manufacture single phase soft starter locally in SA.

1.1kw single phase borehole pump inrush of 22Amp brought down to 9Amp inrush.

Check our website. www.teralec.co.za

Hi Teralec. I am in PE. What do you have to support a 0.55kw or 0.75kw standard house water tank pump soft start? Looking to try save my inverter over the long run.

Many thanks

James

Does anyone have a (Chinese) soft starter module for sale, I do not wish to wait a few months for delivery from Ali express. I have a 1kw single phase borehole  pump - startup current too high for my inverter. Can contact me at [email protected]

Thanks. Koos.
