  1. Good Morning My installation has two Lux Power SNA5000 WPV working independently, they share a mains incoming breaker and the neutral and earth is bonded at the input supply. They each have a separate string of panels connected and a separate 50AH Shoto battery. So other than the supply there is no other common point between the two. The outputs are wired completely separately and each has its own neutral bar on the load side. The problem that I am experiencing is on one of the inverters I am getting 97 volts between neutral and earth the other on is 0 volts as is expected. Is this a problem with the one inverter or is there something else that needs to be done to rectify the problem? Regards Keith
  2. The charger doesnt have a earth wire but I am getting 50V AC between the negative and earth.
  3. Thank you I will check this
  4. Kalahari Meerkat, Thank you for your input. My inverter is connected to a 12v battery which is charged by a normal car battery charger, so I am not sure if there is any connection to earth on the 12volt side of the charger. When there is load shedding I connect the downstream devices using extension leads so there is no electrical connection to the grid on the output side but, if you happen to touch any of the wires downstream there is no or little protection that will trip unless there is a direct short between the wires causing the inverter to cut out or fail.
  5. Good day All, I am not sure if this has been discussed on this forum before however, I am unable to find a conclusive answer so therefore the reason for this post. Why do the portable UPS/inverters not have any earth leakage protection on the output circuit as often many devices are connected via extension cords which seem to be a risk if one should accidentally touch any of the wires on the output. Would it be a good idea to add this to a portable UPS/inverter to prevent electrocution? Thanking you in advance for comments and suggestions. Keith
  6. Good Morning Bobster Thank you for the feedback. What forms did you complete for this? It is my intention to install an inverter that will comply with the regulations, I have seen it is on the CoCT list so I am hoping that it will be on the approved list when City Power publish one. I agree that it is not worthwhile to sell my surplus PV to City Power, all I want to do is provide for my own needs and try to cover the load shedding periods.
  7. Good Morning I have been on the forum for some time now and the current load shedding has caused me to look more seriously into having a system installed at my home. I have seen many topics on this but, some are dated and I was wondering if there has been any changes to this. I am trying to find out more information on the requirements for installing a PV system in Johannesburg (City Power) What documents are required for this and are these examples of these that one can use? Have the regulations for this changed at all with regards to the size of inverters than can be installed with a grid tired system?

  9. I have only started to look a using wind to generate power as i would like to move to the KZN coast and not sure how well the solar works there with the clouds but the wind does seem to blow often. So I will follow this project to see how this can be added to my future system. Thank you for the great information so far.
