  2. Hi Tariq. I am looking at doing similar. I have a 8kw Deye inverter with 5kw solar and 7kw Pylon Li - this is more than sufficient for our power requirements as we are fairly energy conscious. My two x 200l geysers are connected in series and have 2x20 solar tubes (but the vacuum seals on the solar tubes are probably shot!). Currently have the one geyser on a timer for morning and evening which sorts out our hot water requirements - but cloudy days are an issue! My plan is to change the element on the second geyser to a 2kw unit and hook this up to the Smart Load function - I would have done this at the time of installation as planned but the installer had no clue as to how the Smart Load worked and the fact that the sticker on the inverter showed this as a Gen port.... Would appreciate any advice from you, and your experience of the Smart Load effectiveness. Thanks!!

    Have the Deye 8KW from Solar Advice.... great that the dongle came in the box. Instructions for installation for somewhat weak but you can get by on the installation. Don't expect support from Solar Advice on any technical questions, and the technician / installer I was referred to was not clued up either.... in fact, none of them could tell me how the Smart Load function worked so I had to figure this out for myself - and unfortunately did not proceed with using this. My plan was (and remains) to load my geyser as a Smart Load.... Has anyone managed to get this working properly???
  4. I also have 2x3.5 Pylons and got the attached battery performance graphs from Pylon in China. From their own tests, seems you can run the batteries quite hard without materially reducing life expectancy. However, I run mine down to a max DoD of 40% overnight just to allow for any load shedding early morning before the batteries have time to charge up....   6. My grid charge settings are similar to the video. Cloudy overcast day in Gauteng today and my PV barely got the 3% charge in at 40% level. Although I had grid charge to come on at 3pm - this did not happen......guessing that on the Battery Setting page, Start is set at 30%, so grid charge would not have been activated? what settings have you seen work for grid charge?
  7. just saw this now.... not pulling much more than 300w after 9pm, so will be tight but was still at 55% SoC this morning at 5am. Will need to monitor it over a period time and adjust for typical use..... or save up for another 3.5 Pylon
  8. Good question! These were the settings from the installer, except I have now changed the SoC as shown. It does not work that way however as the batteries charge up from PV from first light with no draw from grid.... there may be another priority setting to favour PV before grid.
  9. @justinschoeman Not sure why you would need to do this as I understood the Smart Load function caters for most of this anyway. It does not appear that it draws from the battery or grid, but only from PV and only when there is excess capacity. Unfortunately there is no Deye material to explain this but perhaps SunSynk explain the operations better - they are basically the same inverter There is a short YouTube video:

  11. ck the 3 dots on top right and select device details, then go to inverter and stats. Have set it to storage and see the batteries now - thanks this was very useful Do you know how to reduce the SoC limit on the Deye - not obvious on the menus I went through
  12. @FixAMess the Deye seems to hover around 99% SoC most of the time, going to 100% but not staying there for long. wonder if this helps??
  13. @Youda The Deye inverter uses the Solarman app to monitor the system - can you recommend a better app? for some reason I do not see the Pylons on the App so cannot monitor this
  14. Too many acronyms for a noobie.... Going to reset the SoC limit to 50% before going to grid today... that should balance using the batteries more efficiently, allowing some leeway if there is power outage, and preserving the battery life!
  15. Thanks Justin and Achmat: Not sure what the CT sensor is but it is obviously configured to power just the household load. There is definielty no export to grid as I can see that the power generation of the PV matches the house load. This is the excess capacity that I want to channel to a spare geyser
  16. YES, my bad. SoC is at 80% when the inverter switches to grid. Guess what I am trying to understand is what is a level to take SoC down to and keep battery life to ten years +. Someone mentioned that if I draw power to SoC of 50% then the life of the battery drops exponentially!
  17. Yes, the alarm is set to scream if it goes below 20%, but this only happens when no grid power. On a normal evening, it goes to grid at 80% DOD which is probably wasting the very expensive battery capacity and potential. Correct?
  18. It is grid tied but not delivering to the grid as not enabled - Jhb CityPower does not buy excess power currently. The SmartLoad function is programmed into the inverter and allows non-essential loads to be powered with excess power before selling to the grid (if it was allowed)
  19. I have two US3000 Pylontechs (3.5kw each). My Deye 8kw inverter was default programmed to run down to 80% DOD then moves to grid power. I get maybe 2/3 hours of battery use after sunset before switching to grid. Questions: - What DoD can I safely set the system to without damaging the Pylontech batteries - would like it to last 10 years! - Lowest DOD that is recommended for these batteries? - The Deye BMS is configured for Pylon Li batteries - does it automatically choose the rate of charge at the optimum level - the inverter settings only ask for the max charging amps
  20. Hi. Anyone with experience in using the Smart Load function on the Deye / SunSynk inverters? I have 5KWp PV but using on average under 2KW at any time during the day, so want to connect one geyser to the inverter using the Smart Load feature. System is grid tied and works very well, but want to optimise the use of the 5KWp panels and 8Kw inverter! Recommendations on any energy efficient geyer elements that I can use?
