Growatt - invert not going to SOL mode

Featured Replies

Hi All,
I installed a Growatt inverter a few weeks back.
System is running well with only one snag!! For the invert to run from the solar, you need to manually switch off the grid input and back on again only then will the system supply load to the house and charge the battery with PV from the panels.

Current Setup:

Growatt SPF3000TL-48V

4x 475w Mono-Facial (1900w)

1 x Pylon 3000 C

Inverter Setting:

01 – SOL
03 -UPS

05- Li – 02 36

08 – 220

12 - 50 %

13 - 70%

14 – OSO

This morning the PV kicked in at 05:45 at started to charge the battery, when the battery was full the PV did not run the load of the house. Eskom was still the main load.

Any advice will be HUGELY appreciated.

Your settings seems to be correct, the reason why your PV switched off is because your battery was full. let it use the batter and the PV will switch back on when the battery is around 94%. If your battery reaches 50% as on setting 12, your inverter will switch to the grid as solar charges your battery

Does that "UPS" refer to a UPS mode? I can run my system (different inverter) in UPS mode which basically means it charges up the batteries (not very quickly) and then keeps them at 100% in case of an outage. So in that mode it will mostly use the PV to charge the batteries and grid to run the house. When grid fails then the system draws from batteries and from PV depending on availability of each.

Change your setting 08 to default (230v)

I missed that one, UPS mode means the acceptable input AC is between 170v and 280v. Maybe that setting should be left on Default (APL)

I changed the setting back to default ( APL mode and 230v output)

with the current setting the inverter never uses PV to power the house, basically the PV only charges the battery never power the load even when the SOC goes below 94%.
This is when the grid is available, only with no grid the PV will power the load

Try changing setting 1 from SOL and make it SBU to see if you still have the same issue. Looks like your SOL is doing what UTL is supposed to be doing. I would first change to SBU, see if the same problem is still there, and then change to UTL see if there is any change. If all those settings does the same thing, then re-boot your inverter and start again. Boot up both the Pylontech battery and the inverter

If All fails, you might have to update your firmware. Do this as a last resort 😀

The firmware specific to your inverter can be obtained directly from Growatt. Ask them to send you ([email protected]) . Try the easy stuff first, like what I suggested above and see if changing the programs on setting 1, make any difference and the re-booting of the devices

Just a quick update regarding the this issue.

I went out on site yesterday and did some testing, found that the client added a kwikot under basin water heater ( 1500w ) in in the kitchen thinking they would save some money running this form the inverter.

When we tested before installed running load on the house was 550w and peaking at 2200w when they used the microwave. Remember this is only a small backup system.
After installing the under-basin water heater, the system had a few overloads. The water heater would kick in at random times mostly at night time when they are cooking and busy in the kitchen.

Client then change some of the setting and this made it all worse !!!

on the smaller system don’t enable function 18

18 – Overload bypass

When enabled, the unit will transfer the line mode if overload occurs in battery mode

You need to completely shut down the system to get it out of line mode, I learned this the hard way

@Vos J I don't understand how you can have trips with 10 KVA of power from the inverters. the inverters should be able to handle 10 KVA. You talking just over 3 Kw

I have the same installed, OK different inverter, I have the ES type = high power your client have the TL = Low power.

I can run the my 3 Kw geyser from about 10 o'clock in the morning and, run the stove +_ 3 KW in the evening for +_ 1 to 1 1/2 hours

Something wrong with the settings.

I have setting 1 on SBU= solar, battery, utility. and setting 14 on OSO  = only solar charges the battery

I have 18 on ENA, got to say never had an overload yet.

you must make sure that you have set your inverters to run in parallel, one will assume the place of master the other as slave.

as an example the last hour on my system in this picture, already running the oven over 2 KVA and still enough to supplement the battery.

Hi Antonio,

Unfortunately there inverter that was installed is 3KW max output, this at an elderly couples home and at that point of time they only needed a backup power source.

looking to help them with a upgrade to 5KW unit

Apologies, I was under the impression the system comprised of 2 X 5000 KVA inverters.

3 KVA it will even be risky to run a microwave.

Using microwave , kettle , toaster , hairdressers and the like on 3kw should have no issues as long as every in the house understand to only run one high load aplies at a time .. 3 kw works great for only 2 in the house . My 3 kw inverter is now around 7 years old now pulling the  entire flat  that my daughter is staying in with 3  and run from solar the day .

How are the panels connect . 1 or 2 strings
