Sunsynk 8kw minute current draw from battery when On-Grid

Featured Replies

I was wondering if someone on the forum had the same issue. My Sunsynk 8.8kw unit draws about 40-48watts when on grid and there is no PV. So basically I have disabled the timer. When on 100% charge, it goes down to about 93% over night. At 48V and ~45w, that is a constant 1A draw from the inverter. Is this normal? The grid supplies the rest of my load. Not sure why the Inverter would draw this small amount when grid is available? I have disconnected my battery one evening and the next morning connected it again and the SOC was at 100%. I have 3x US5000 Pylons.

I could not find a similar case on the forum.

Hi.

Has the inverter been doing this consistently or was it once off? If it was once off then it was likely that there was a grid failure and the battery discharged. If this is a regular issue then it shouldn't do that. Would you like to upgrade to the latest firmware to see if this still happens.

It has been doing that since I remember. I normally discharge during the night so the odd time I do keep my batteries full, I noticed it. I requested a firmware upgrade but never get any feedback. Did request an upgrade again last night. Can you fast track it?

Please send me your inverter serial number

Hi @JohnDoe. Did you ever get this resolved? I have just had a system installed and notice there is a constant draw of around 20w odd coming off the battery. Interested to understand if this is normal or something which needs to be attended to...

I thought the Sunsynk draws self consumption from batteries even when on grid. I have the same behavior on my units

@Leshen: You are the expert - can you please advise?

I tried getting the firmware updated but it was never updated. Why can't one just load a file to the inverter and update it yourself?

Still have the issue. Perhaps others can comment if this is how it is supposed to work?

Hi Andy. If you untick use timer, it should not discharge the battery. The flow diagram does show that there is around 20w being supplied by the battery but the battery percentage should never drop.

Thanks for the feedback, Leshen

I am also experiencing 45W self-consumption from the batteries rather than 20W (also see here)

Eventually it just becomes a numbers game. If you are running for 10h on grid during the night, then the draw will be about 0.4kWh from the batteries for the Sunsynk self-consumption. Depending on your battery size, this will result in a drop in SOC
