Posted May 20, 20222 yr Hi clever people Complete solar novice here. Yesterday I had an 8kw Hybrid System installed (8kw Deye Hybrid inverter, 2 x Pylontech UP5000 batteries and 12 x 540W JA Solar panels). The purpose of the system is to combat loadshedding and simultaneously reduce electricity bill as much as possible through the most efficient use of the system. As far as I can tell, the batteries are permanently at 100% charge (no loadshedding since installation) and during the day household is being powered either completely from the panels or supplemented by the grid at times of high load / low sun. According to the installer, the system requires no input in terms of settings and is "smart" enough to work everything out on its own. Am I correct in saying that without "telling" it what to do in terms of the "Time Of Use" settings in "System Work Mode", the batteries will only ever be utilised during outages and the system will never reach full efficiency as load will not draw from the batteries at night? If so, does anyone have a suggested go to "template" of settings to input into the "System Work Mode" to ensure efficiency as well as sufficient battery back up charge during times of loadshedding? (i.e at what battery level it should charge from the grid during the respective time periods). Also, should the Energy Pattern be set to "Battery first" or "Load First"? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Here's a couple pics of what I'm referring to:
May 21, 20222 yr The issue I see off the bat 1. I would do load first for solar 2. Activate time of use, and plan there. Pm me I will send you my settings.
May 25, 20222 yr would appreciate if you would share the settings with me as well, i have minimal discharge on the batteries during the day. the only thing else i could find indicates using the grid peak shaving setting to reduce or limit the amount used from grid to force battery utilization
March 13, 20232 yr Hi guys, thought I would share my settings and see what response I get from the forum.... Firstly, my setup is a s follows: 5Kva Deye Hybrid Inverter coupled with a 48V 4800Wh LFeLi battery and 4 x 340w solar panels .... My house orientation in not optimal, so I have two panels facing SE for morning sun and the remaining two facing NW for the afternoon sun... needless to say, all 4 panels benefit at Midday and I can get 1.1 Kva generated on a good hot sunny day for about 2 to 3 hours. Back to the settings... I have basically set the Time of Use to run the battery down to 50% SOC at night and early morning and also allow the Grid to charge once 50% is reached if required. During the day, I have set the SOC to 95%, which is hopefully achieved by solar alone. I have set the last day time session to be charged by the Grid to 'Top up' the battery to 80% before heading back into the evening period. Needless to say, this is suitable for good sunny weather and typically 4 hours of load shedding at night. (Day time load shedding should not be an issue) If circumstances change, ie the weather is cloudy / raining with little sun, I will have to Grid Charge all time sessions ... in other words, Top up with Eskom once the SOC drops to the preset values. My only "risk"as I see it is if load shedding occurs with bad weather, then power management will need to apply, ie minimal load on the battery until either the sun shines or the power is restored. That's my system in a nutshell... any comments /suggestions are appreciated.
April 2, 20241 yr HI I am also new to solar, just got a 8 Kva Deye with 2 volta stage 1 batteries and 15 550w jinko pannels. Would like my system to run as best it can so safe on Eskom costs and uitlise all the energy provided .
April 3, 20241 yr Hi Serg, Do a search on the forum for Deye and Work Mode Settings and you will find quite a bit of info on that topic. However, have a look at this topic for some help in the meantime to get your system set up optimally:
April 3, 20241 yr Hi MdF Look i have downloaded the deye cloud app, but not registered, dont know how, so need help their please. Then this is what i would like so please bear with me i am a big novice to this. sun charges batteries till 100% during the day my usage during the day is round about 0.48 to 0.6 so running on the sun. I have a solar geyser so just want to make sure that its fully heated everyday on the excess energy as well as my swimming pool pump to run from 12pm to 4 0r 5pm on the excess. At 6pm or no solar the the batteries till 30 or 20% not sure how far i should let it run down its 2 volta stage 1 batteries. then if it reaches the 20 to 30% before sun can take over then grid must kick in till 50% or when sun ac take over. Can you please help me with these settings? I have got a pre paid meter as well so can not push back into the system so want to utilize as much of the excess energy as possible. please can you help me with this. Regards Serg
