Sunmagic Solar Panels

Featured Replies

Good day , i presently have 16 x 450W Sunmagic panels installed (single string). I live between Parys and Vanderbijlpark and the panels are mounted a few degrees west of north at a 26 degree slope .The manufacturer claims 49,8 V open ciurcuit and max output at 41,4V .

I measure 640 V max open circuit and max power out at around 3 Kw . I believe this is under spec or this a realistic output ?

Any advise please

if they are 16 in series single string, then your voltages should be around 1200volts.
Maybe you have them 8 in series and 8 in parallel ?

3kw sounds close to correct for this time of the year, all depending on how your inverter is using the power produced.

I would think if you have enough=more than 4kw load on you should be getting a peak of 4500-5000W from the 7200W installed this time of the year at 13h00 if battery is not fully charged.

16 X 49,6V is a theoretical 793,6VOC if they are all in Series. Not sure what Inverter accommodates such a voltage?
With your 7200Watt theoretical max and your tilt and azimuth I would guess 5000W should be on the cards at minimum at around 12:00 to 13:00
My panels are around 20deg North-East and a tilt of 30deg and I hit over 5000W yesterday with a theoretical max of 6400W.
Your recorded output would obviously be dependent on the load you put on the system.
So perhaps you can state what the rest of your installation consists of and whether your panels are 2 Strings of 8 each in parallel?

I have an Invinisolar 10KW 3 phase inverter. Input maximun 900V DC . I looks like i have to disconnect the panels and test them individually.

A shortcut will be to break the series connection between no 8 and 9. Then test say the 8 on the positive side for output and then on the negative 8. Remember to change the polarity on the inverter when you do the midpoint to either pos or neg with a temporary test cable. Both halves should at the same time give about the same power.
