September 2, 20224 yr Hi Guy's, Please assist. I am installing a Kodak 7.2 inverter. The manual calls for us to use a 10mm (Gauge 8 )Ac input cable. I understand that a 60A breaker should be used on the AC input and output cables. Segen posted a recommendation that we should use a 40A QA!# Circuit Breaker Curve 3. This is to protect the inverter from large loads. Now I don't know what size breaker I should be using? Please assist.

Eg if a wire is rated for 44A.... you should not use anything greater than a 40A Breaker. There are SANS tables that specify the current rating If your breaker rating is larger than the wire and you pull a load that is still below the breaker value then the wire will heat up and cause a fire and the breaker will never disconnect the load.

Too many peoples (even engineers) believe they can protect equipment with breakers or fuses. For the protection of motors and transformers exist a specific line and type of protective devices, on witch one can set the current limit according to the equipment rated current. Such devices have a different thermal heating characteristic than wires. Therefor the Axpert line of inverters have their own protective device built in.
