September 12, 20223 yr Hi, Those that are lucky enough to have older meters, are you feeding any excess to grid - Any ideas on the implications from the municipality/eskom?
September 12, 20223 yr Not lucky enough to have those old school spinning wheel meters but I have a Conlog Bec23 meter that I fully expected to trip on export to grid - and it doesn't. Got lucky I guess. There doesn't appear to be any units being deducted for the export units being pushed back. Well - either that or I don't notice any deductions because I have an export limit of 100w set on my inverter. I can see that for the past 2 weeks it's only exported 12kWh back to the grid. In terms of implications - none in terms of daily operation and household energy use impacted. In terms of what Eskom can see and or do about it. I don't actually care all that much.

I have read that even if a digital meter does go backwards you will be charged for the units fed back into the grid. I have no idea how true it is though, I've not seen any real confirmation.

I have no idea how true it is though, I've not seen any real confirmation. There are different algorithms used. Bi-directional might deduct units or store in a different stack. Others measure export as current through the measuring circuit and deduct units as used power. Then some meters do not deduct units but do store export and the total accumulated export can be read by a suitable comms connection.
