  1. Probably a silly question - and apologies if already answered - but - are these true hybrid?
  2. Managed to find a cheap BMS to just get me further in terms of testing and verification.
  3. Hello all, I purchased a 48v 200ah battery and didn't test before purchase. I'm an idiot. I know 😃 Turns out the BMS in it appears non-functional. Voltage testing on P- and B+ shows very low voltage. Testing on B-and B+ shows proper pack voltages. BMS appears to be in some sort of protection mode that I can't get it out of. I suspect a completely "throw in the bin" BMS. Looking for a another BMS with CAN just to get functional. I'm in Cape Town. Please PM if you have something laying about for cheap that you have no use for. Thanks
  4. That theory is solid. Precisely how my Solis operates. Geyser and Oven are the only 2 circuits I classified as non-essential and is wired grid side. All other circuits are on a separate SUB-DB. CT Clamp on incoming grid feed. Geyser heats up through various ways depending on PV availability. Enough PV and it heats up using solar entirely. Not enough PV it uses a combination of Solar and Battery. Not enough solar and battery (combined), it uses whatever it can from solar, battery and supplements differences from the grid. If grid is lost, the inverter does not feedback at all to non-essential circuits (by design). For me, that means, Geyser and Oven completely unavailable during grid loss.
  5. Hello all, I'm hoping someone in the Cape Town are can perhaps point me in the right direction. I'm over the corporate world and would like to explore pivoting careers from IT to becoming a certified electrician - single phase for now. It would have to be part time for course as I can't stop the current income stream to do something full time. Any recommendations on the path to follow? Schools/Courses/Colleges etc. Thanks
  6. Have you adjusted your inverter in accordance with the battery though?
  7. Are you referring to the FreedomWon? If so, can you perhaps share a link to the special please? I'm looking to add another battery as well
  8. @Powerforum Store - perhaps any specials on panels?
  9. I had a nuisance EL trip and only during rain. I tracked my issue down to water ingress on a junction point outdoors for my pool pump. Perhaps your issue may prove to be something similar?
  10. Price : 9000 Location : Cape Town / Blouberg Side Pics: https://ibb.co/tQh6zkX https://ibb.co/SrzGRrv https://ibb.co/RTP5Qqj Link: https://www.startsolar.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/SolaXBox.pdf Manual: https://www.startsolar.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/SolaX_Box.pdf On this page, you will find and How-To Video instructions and downloads for FAQ's for the SOLAX Box Hybrid Inverter https://mspd.africa/support/solax-box/ Notes: This is a warm standby inverter I purchased and wired in as a backup for my current Solis inverter in the event of a failure of my main inverter where my main inverter would need to go in for repair under warranty. I'm currently looking at moving my main inverter from the Solis 5kW to an 8kW inverter and then make the Solis my warm standby. The SolaxBox for sale is essentially a server rack with the separate rack mounted modules slotted in (Control Box, Inverter, Charger,MPPT etc). This has hybrid blending capabilities. The Control Box contains all the breakers and meters to control feedback etc. Sale does not include any Lithium or other chemistry based batteries. I have run this inverter using a LifePower 200ah 48v battery and that was literally plug and play and comms established. I'm guessing the same would likely apply for most other BMS based batteries. It's quite an inverter with amazing functionality and kinda looks nice too in it's own rack I reckon This will need to be collected using a bakkie and a buddy or 2. It's HEAVY. This will not fit in a hatchback or sedan.
  11. Can you post a pic of the panel specs. I highly doubt those are 12v panels. Look for the Open circuit voltage (Voc) values on the panels.

Can you perhaps share the details and possibly sales links of this inverter please?
  13. " I didn't have a proper MC4 crimper, so I just squashed the connectors on with pliers" You should fix this though 😃 Edit : I misread - thought you actually joined the wires by twisting them together with pliers .My bad. Squashing them IN the connectors with pliers seems just fine to me 🤣
  14. Very interesting content. Wondering the validity of it all. Make sense in a way I guess, my Solis has integrated isolator
  15. Sounds like you don't have a battery hooked up and it's running as grid tied. Without battery, when the sun goes down the inverter powers off even with AC present. This is by design.
  16. Have one of these. And it does what you need it to. Feeds excess to non-essential circuits as well as excess of excess to grid if you so choose. Has the option to block export. the 3kw is limited on the Backup AC port - so anything on essential is limited to 3kw. Which is for the most part more than enough for essential loads. Non essentials benefit from PV when the grid is available. That's when i choose to go balls to the wall and run the geyser, dishwasher, washing machine etc etc etc
  17. Are you removing the smashed panels? I have 3 out of the 6 panels on a string that are smashed. Sealed them with clear epoxy and they still work mostly fine.
  18. Are you absolutely sure Time of Use is turned off? If there is a discharge window set in time of use it will discharge your battery to grid in that window. Edit. I see your last post was an answer:D Perhaps enable time of use as a test, set a charge and discharge time slot, in the discharge time slot make it for 10min, see what happens when that window comes around. If it discharges to grid for that few minutes and not longer that's a good start. Then disable time of use and enable self use and monitor further. Maybe, just a glitch that needs to be enabled to be disabled. A pity they removed the screen from these new gen inverters. Have the previous model with the screen and there has been ocassions in the past where I set something on the app and it doesn't pass through. The screen was helpful through many glitchy app phases.
  19. If well within the voltage specs it shouldn't go "poof". Curious to know though, when folks are seeing way higher than rated output are they seeing voltages going past the advertised Voc or just amps climbing?
  20. I'm near certain you still can export. Meter will either trip after a certain threshold or just merrily export away while your units deplete as it cannot differentiate if electricity is going in or out. My Conlog Prepaid doesn't trip and from experimentation doesn't appear to have a threshold where it will trip either and it gladly accepts export all while charging me to send power back. Something to be careful of.
  21. Mine is similar to the second pic installed on an IBR roof. Not going to lie, I've had water ingress post installing but have since applied a generous amount of rubber sealant under, in and around every mount hole. No more ingress and fingers crossed it holds up. I plan on inspecting before each rainy season though.
  22. Have similar rails and they've survived the elements especially some near gale force winds.
  23. Are these "rules" applicable to Parklands though? COCT seems to be steering the ship off a cliff but Parklands and surrounds is not on COCT but Eskom. That's been my only consolation all along. Eskom and their incompetence can't steer any thing anywhere and will turn a blind eye, indefinitely I hope, to it all 😄
  24. No cost if you're residential?
