November 3, 20223 yr Hi Guys, I’ve imported a few different models of 50ah-100ah lifepo4 batteries from various Chinese suppliers. I’d like to get them opened, tested and put through their paces to see which are of decent quality. I’ve seen a bunch of posts from members which have done some testing on lithium batteries. Is there anyone here that has experience doing advanced testing and can tell the good batteries/cells/BMSs from the bad ones? Obviously will pay for your time

Obviously will pay for your time Hi @alkit Are those individual cells or fully built packs? I am guessing it is cells. Some basics: 1 - Check visual quality, terminals condition, blue wrapping, bulging sides, nicks, dents etc. Anything visual that could indicate previous use. Also on the visual side should be intact QR code which you can use to lookup manufacture date. Important as sometimes the batteries could be from old batches from a year or few more ago. 2 - Check the delivered voltage and also the internal resistance, should match up with the info found on the QR code page info and/or official spec sheets. Delivered voltage/SOC should usually be about 50% 3 - get a decent coulomb counter and use a decent constant load for discharge testing, and a decent LiFePo4 charger. These can be sourced in SA if you can find stock, else check amazon they always have stock and quick delivery times. If all that sounds a bit much send me a PM Maybe also have a look at Andy's Off-Grid-Garage Youtube channel he has some great how-to's on testing cells.
