January 17, 20233 yr Hi all, looking for advice and guidance on a loadshedding solution please. I am in a small 1 bedroom apartment in a complex. Want to have a system installed that will run my lights (4), a fridge/freezer, Laptop, (small electric kettle or coffee machine and microwave - these can be non essential). I am considering a custom solution comprising a seperate 3kw Inverter coupled with a 3 - 3.5kwh Lithium Battery. OR are the 3000VA type trolley solutions with lithium batteries an option worth considering? Unfortunately, solar panels not an option as it is not yet approved for the complex. Based on the above power requirements, would a 3kw Inverter coupled with a 3 - 3.5kwh Lithium Battery be an 'overkill' or could we do with a smaller solution to save on costs. For both the custom and trolley solutions I would prefer DB Board connectivity. Any advice, guidance and recommendations will be appreciated.

Both systems should work provided the trolley unit is pure sine wave. Not much of an over kill as this gives a nice margin for reserve power. Rather not use a kettle or coffee machine as it uses high power. A small gas bottle with single burner is a cheap solution.
January 17, 20233 yr I'll admit I'm generally partial to the idea of built-in systems that are well-planned with long-term practical thinking, leaning towards somewhat of an overkill headroom for future expansion. Do you have a particular inverter and battery make and model in mind? For a small apartment I'd give special consideration to fan noise.

I agree with you but being a 1 bedroom apartment I would say extensions can be used instead of wiring to DB. A low noise 1.6kW UPS comes to mind with low noise fan. Averge 24V.
