I've been eyeing out the Luxpower SNA-5000 for a loadshedding backup system for a few weeks now. I've been wondering how it performs with generator power? I have a 5Kva generator I can connect in the interim whilst I save over the next few months for batteries.

My first question is ; 1) with generator power can it swap over back to grid autonomously once the power returns, effectively leaving the generator on idle or will this require manual switching?
                                   2) Will the transfer time be quick enough on gen power for my household appliances to keep running when it swaps back to grid power?

My plan is to pick up the inverter now, run off of gen power whenever loadshedding hits and then eventually hook up about 10kwh of batteries to the system when I have the money.

Depends where you live, I am about 80km's from Cape Town, I went to ACDC Express, walked in and walked out, especially the one in Paarden Eiland, very knowdledgable and very helpful

I have no this inverter, but was reading documentation, reviews, watched videos  etc

A few guys reported on YouTube that the inverter wan't charge batteries from a generator. Other said that it probably because of unstable frequency of the generator. Most problems with cheap China's generators with AVR. European models seems work good. And if you have  generator with inverter output then all should be ok.

Btw, more expensive competitor of luxpower who has additional generator power port is Deye. But it about 50% more expensive.

Hi Everyone

My apologies is this is the wrong thread. Has anyone any experience with the Luxpower SNA 5000 WPV starting a diesel genny automatically when batteries become low? I am completely off grid (no utility at all) currently running a 5kw Mecer, 3000watt panels and two 5.2 blue nova's. Want to upgrade using 3 x Luxpowers in parallel but it must be able to start genny automatically. Setting instructions in the manual seems bit confusing and more complicated than the Axpert type inverters.

Also, I don't need wifi monitoring, feed back to the grid and all those fancy features? So perhaps someone will suggest another inverter for my purpose? I like the Luxpower thou because it has the separate input for genny and in parallel setup can have separate battery banks instead of all batteries on buss bar. And the price is good! 

Any commends will be welcome. I live near Vredenburg and would love to see anyone's Luxpower setup in my area.
