January 31, 20233 yr In late December, we had a battery (Shoto 5.12khw) and inverter (Luxpower SNA5000) installed to help with load-shedding - and the first day after it being active, I noticed that the changeover from Battery > Eskom resulted in our 2.5A alarm fuse being blown AND our 1A garage door motor fuse blowing. Since then, my alarm fuse has been fine, but my garage door fuse has needed replacing 5 times. Whilst fuses aren't expensive, it is still a pain in the ass to keep replacing fuses. For additional info, we do not have a voltage / surge arrestor installed as part of our setup - but I'm wondering if that will solve the issue or if it's something else entirely. We didn't have ANY fuse blowing issues prior to the system being installed. Edited January 31, 20233 yr by ShanoMac
January 31, 20233 yr I have not had this problem since installation a couple of days ago, however there is a discernable dip in power when the grid decides to ghost me. I do not have the same effect when the grid calls for a hookup again.
January 31, 20233 yr Have you checked your voltage between Neutral and Earth whilst running on your Inverter, i.e. Neutral Earth bonding during loadshedding and also when the grid is available. It should be good as the Inverter has a NE bond internally. No harm in just checking if that is in place.
January 31, 20233 yr Author Thanks for all the feedback everyone Checking voltages between Neutral and Earth isn't something I know how to do, but let me go do some reading and see if I can monitor it. Much appreciated!

Much appreciated! When running during load shedding / grid a multi-meter should show: L - N -> +/-230V L - E -> +/-230V N - E -> +/-0V Pretty straight forward using a multi-meter set to AC-Voltage. Wearing rubber insulating gloves is recommended.

February 28, 20233 yr Author Sorry to hear Torino. I've definitely isolated the problem down to the changeover from when Eskom drops, and the Inverter and battery takes over. My garage door's F1A250V fuse blows EVERY time. Right now, my only solution is to keep the garage door motor switched off, and I just switch it on manually when I need to open and close the garage door. Getting panels soon - and then hoping that it doesn't happen anymore - since reliance on grid should be no more... so no more changeover. That's the idea... fingers crossed.
February 28, 20233 yr Monitor your AC voltage at changeover. If it dips low it can cause amps drawn on the garage door to increase above 1A.
