Hi. We have decided on a 5KW solar setup inverter that connects to our DB. Its only 3 of us and require TV, Surround Sound, Airfyer, Fan, XBOX, 2 fridges, 2 laptops and screens , lights including garage motor and solar pump for geyser. There are so many options on the net and very confusing. I have found the following options and wondering whether it will be suitable. Our budget is about 70K. Might even consider doing the solar panels at a later stage.

There is also an option to buy the items at cost from a relative in Durban and have it installed by a professional. Haven't explored this option yet to understand the cost savings. Will the installers provide a guarantee if they don't supply the hardware?

This is one for the installers. Lately I have seen some sellers only selling inverters to installers. Also some warranties are carried by the installer and not the end user. This meant your claim will not be accepted. 

Other sellers insist on getting a copy of the COC.

I would go for the luxpower as it has 2mppts, should the time come and you need more panels this would be an easier upgrade for you

Some points to note, just my 2c worth:

1. Both of these kits already contain around 3.2kW of solar panels. Different sizes of panels, but they sum up to about the same.

2. You should start considering the available space and orientation on your roof, to see where the panels will be mounted. Note, as above, that the Luxpower inverter with 2 MPPT inputs offer better versatility for complex roofs, and future upgrades, but the choice of 6x545W panels in this kit will limit you to one panel orientation on one MPPT anyway.

3. Both these kits use a single 0.5C Dyness battery. Do some reading up, and understand that it limits your power from battery to just 2.5kW. You either need 2 such batteries, or opt for a 1C battery, to make full use of the inverter's 5kW output.

4. With all else being equal, the same Dyness battery, similar 3.2kW panel output, and with installation included, the Luxpower kit is R8000 more than the Growatt 5kW kit. This is quite a high difference considering that the inverters have a similar price point. I'd suggest getting a third quote directly from an installer for a comparable kit. R2000 installation cost on the Growatt kit seems seriously very low, almost too low for installing the inverter and putting panels on the roof, but I may be wrong here.

Having 2 batteries will increase the price considerably and will be out of my budget. I guess that it doesn't limit me to upgrade in the future though. I can always add another battery. I think will explore the option of buying items myself and having someone install them. Obviously warranty included in the deal. Having the option of getting the hardware at cost will most likely put my in a position to get what you advised above. 

 

My roof orientation should be fine. I will consider the Luxpower for growth. 

 

Do you have any options and installers I can consider? Based in Gp.
