Posted April 13, 20232 yr Good day My heat pump's controller battery is flat and now loses time when it loses power. I opened the unit and it seems that the battery cannot be replaced. Saw this as an opportune time to replace the controller with a WiFi capable one. Called Kwikot and they say unfortunately not. Any ideas or recommendations of a WiFi capable control unit? I thought of keeping the existing controller and adding a CBI Astute for wifi capability, but I have no space in my DB board. Thanks Edited April 13, 20232 yr by ZaydS

Thanks Put the CBI in a very small DB with DIN rail inside the roof close to the heat pump. You can also use the cheaper Astude isolator if power measurement is not required. April 13, 20232 yr Author Thanks. Someone mentioned the Shelly 1 smart switch/relay. It's a small unit and can be placed behind front plate of db board. Any views on using it? https://www.takealot.com/shelly-1-smart-wifi-relay-switch/PLID71030544
April 13, 20232 yr I am using a Shelly Plus 1PM for my pool pump. Its been working for the past 6 months with no issues. I actually prefer it to the Sonoff that I am using for my geyser. https://www.takealot.com/shelly-plus-1pm-single-pack/PLID70295592 If you wan to measure the temperature of the water you can attached the Shelly Temperature Add-On to you Shelly Plus1 PM and the same devices will give you WiFI control, energy metering and temperature sensing. https://www.takealot.com/shelly-temperature-sensor-addon/PLID71888767

April 14, 20232 yr I have a Kwikot heat pump. And I have the same problem myself. The unit has one of those little spot-welded lithium watch batteries and that's clearly no longer much use. Most of the time this is not an issue for me. I run the heatpump on the backed up circuits, and we've got away with it for years. But lately I've noticed that in the early morning there can be a spike just after startup. This is intermittent, though maybe I could correlate it to external temperature or something if I could get off my lazy behind. Anyway, sometimes this gets into overload territory. If that happens when the grid is up then the inverter will restart itself and life carries on. But yesterday morning the overload happened AND there was early morning load shedding, so I suffered the massive indignity of not having any power for about 65 minutes 😵 Anyway, maybe consider adding it to the backed up loads. Then that little cell can be as pap as a very pap thing and your controller won't lose time. In my experience, no other settings get changed on loss of power, and so clearly that little battery is just keeping a clock running. Edited April 14, 20232 yr by Bobster.
