May 25, 20233 yr Hi all, Im trying to make an informed decision on my panel choices before making a purchase, The setup i want 10 panels 5kw sunsynk inverter 2 X 5kwh sunsync bats Most guys are quoting me on the JA 550W panels Now here my question The rating on the inverter for PV current is 13 amp The panels the guys are quoting me on are MAX CURRENT AMP 13,1 -14 around there Will the panels ever reach that? Because im worried that i might hurt the inverter in the long run? Do the panels produce less current over time? Please advise Thanks
May 25, 20233 yr Minor excess Amps won't hurt the inverter as it will simply clip the excess. Excess Volts will hurt your inverter though, so make sure you connect it as 2 strings of 5 panels instead of 1 string of 10. Voc of 49.9V times 10 is way too close to 500V.
May 25, 20233 yr I think current will be clipped, your main consideration should be number of panels and string size (i.e. I assume you're not intending to put all of those onto one string as that would not work with sufficient safety margin). Also, you don't want too few panels on a string and be too far off the sweet spot or even below the minimum. What is your plan with string size and direction? 2 strings with 5 panels each?
May 25, 20233 yr Author Hi yeah going to be two stings 5 and 5 That is good, I cant wait have like 20 quotes on my table. Some dont want to do the 550w panels other say it shouldn't be a problem. But its the same price and more power if i go with 550W so i dont think why i wouldn't right? As long as the Clipping by 0.2 amps or so wont damage the inverter im going with that option Thanks for the advice

What is considered "minor" though? I'm assuming the panels that @VinceG is talking about is the JAM72D30-550 which has STC values of Imp-13.11 and Isc-14, but then the spec sheet shows the values go up all the way to 14.98 for Isc? So will the inverter clip a full amp or 2 if presented with those conditions? Edited May 29, 20233 yr by Zombie

February 3, 20251 yr Hi all, My amp is 22.9 and my inverter mppt is set for 18. I am 5 over. Will my mppt clip the 5 above the set 18 amp. Or am I in danger here.
June 16, 20251 yr How much can you over-panel a 8kW Sunsynk?Currently I have 12 x 545W panels, 6 on each MPPT. These panels are all facing North-East. I would like to add more panels on my North-West facing roof. Today (I know it is almost the shortest day of the year) my maximums were 250V and 9.5A on each of the MPPTsIf I parallel my two existing strings into one MPPT, I suspect I will get close to or maybe exceed 26A in the summer. Up to what point will the inverter clip an over current?
