May 30, 20233 yr Hello! I have a RCT 1.2kva inverter connected to a Revov 12v 2.54kwh battery. It isn't connected to the distribution board at all - there's an AC in to charge the battery and a multiplug on the inverter for AC out that I plug in my computer and TV to. I wanted to check whether there are any COC requirements or the like that I need to consider when connecting a solar panel to that setup. It'll remain disconnected from the grid outside of the AC in I use to charge the battery. Thanks!
May 30, 20233 yr I think the two applicable points are 'fixed conductor' and '50V' in the OHS act... If it is a 'fixed conductor' (fastened in place such that it would require the use of tools to remove), then a CoC is required - unless it is less than 50V. So in practical terms, 2 or more fixed panels in series would require a CoC.

If you are using class 2 appliances( double insulated 2 pin plug) from your multiplug you are ok. But if you are powering class 1 appliances ( 3pin plug) you need a seperate RCD(earth leakage) before the multiplug. In the event of LS or power outage from Eskom you will have no earth fault protection as the RCD in the main db will not trip in the event of an faulty appliance/s. You will also need a non permanent earth/ neutral bond on the output of the inverter. Seeing that it is a Voltronic clone there might be an earth/ neutral relay i am not familiar with the 1.2kva RCT.
May 30, 20233 yr That is a really good idea from a safety point of view - but is it a legal requirement for a CoC (seeing as this is not a fixed installation, and is supplied from a plug point)?

My plan is to plug a panel into the bottom right soloar-in ports (I think my inverter is similar to yours). I'll have a 14A fuse on the positive cable from the solar panel.
