May 31, 20233 yr Hi, In order to save costs I want to mount the panels to the roof myself. I have a few free days coming up. When I do this what do I need to do with regards to wiring in order to hand over to an electrician to complete the installation Can I run the solar DC cables to were I want the inverter? Use metal galvanized tube on the outside of roof as conduit and then use PVC once it moves inside? or is it metal all the way? Im planning on 2 strings of 6 panels each. Does each strings cables need to be in a separate conduit? What do I need to do with earthing the panels? Do I just attach the earthing clips to the panels and leave the rest for the electrician? What else do I need to know, or can do to reduce the costs of installers/electricians Thanks
May 31, 20233 yr My thoughts... 1) Run DC cables (label string 1, string 2) only to where the DC disconnect/fuse box is. Electrician needs to add the fuse box with surge protectors, fuses, disconnect etc. 2) For panel earthing, panels must be connected to each other and the rails. Then take an earth wire to a copper spike in the (garden) earth. The electrician should do the measurements to make sure the earth point is good enough (not sure what this is..) 3) 4 X DC cables can run in single conduit but not in conduit together with AC cables. 4) I used steel conduit on the roof for DC cables and then pvc (??) conduit in the house.
June 26, 20232 yr @Mileage Are you done with your installation? What was the end result? I am kind of in the same situation.
