Hello together,

I have 2x Voltronic Axpert King II 48V inverters in parallel use. When I tried to connect a Pylontech US5000 battery, I connected the Battery-Inverter cables with RS252 ports instead of BMS ports RS485 of the both inverter, which was a huge mistake.

Since than there is no information on both displays anymore, only on/off buttons on LCD displays are working to switch inverters on or off. But no additional info will be shown; LCD displays are dead. Also Wi-Fi data collectors are not visible in my WLAN.

The management of the inverter is not possible.

Has anyone an idea or similar experience, how I can solve this problem?
I’ve read several proposals in this forum, i.e. to reflash LCD display firmware, but it is not possible to get a connection neither via RJ45 nor USB port, because LCD display has no POWER.

You might have merely blown the SMD fuses inside the display, or you might be able to repair or bypass the power supply.

Another possibility is to bypass the display and talk directly to the DSP. Be aware that some of the commands are slightly different though; two that I'm aware of are

1) QPGS modifies the machine number parameter from 0-8 (display) to 0-9; the DSP will subtract 1 from the machine number, unless it was already zero. Zero is now the machine that the display is connected to.

2) The QGMN command will sometimes return different values from the display than from the DSP. I have no idea why that is. For example, a 48V King 1 DSP will return 23, but the display will translate that to 36.

I think, I will be able to bypass LCD display with the proposed wiring. I don’t want to send any command to the inverter, because of lack of knowledge. If I can use WatchPower with PC, it would be great.

I have also a Wi-Fi Module; connected to DSP, but there is no power. (How) Is it possible to connect Wi-Fi Module to DSP in a way enabling remote monitoring of the inverter?

Do you have a picture that shows where the SMD fuses and power supply located?

By the way, I am also looking for the replacement LCD Display Panels to purchase, but the proposed items are not for Axpert King II, they are for Axpert Max 8kW or 11kW. I am not sure, if these product are compatible with Axpert King II.

Finally, I hope I did not damage any component of Inverter I.e. com board etc.

Note that there are at least thee fuses above, F1 (towards the left), F3, and F4. These are all M3216 (imperial 1206) 1 A fuses, from memory. Actually, the whole post is probably worth reading.

It seems I misremembered; the power supply for these displays seems to come from the inverter, probably the "comms board", which is different to those of earlier models, and is only accessible by opening the case.

They are certainly not compatible without modification. You will need to replace the firmware with one suitable for the Kings II or newer VM IIIs, such as (1)19.16. You'll have to be careful with 119.xx versus 19.xx, as there are two incompatible MCU chips. I heard that they unified these firmwares, but also that the unification doesn't always work. So best to check the present version (non trivial) and replace 1yy.yy with 1zz.zz or yy.yy with zz.zz. Then you'll have to use a MAX firmware update tool to get the first King II firmware into the display. I have not heard of anyone doing this successfully (or not), so this is all theory.

It would be far better if you can locate a source of displays intended for either the King II or the new VM IIIs (the 6 kW and 4 kW models, NOT the older 5 kW and 3.6 or whatever kW models). Don't you just love the way Voltronic changes their models' behaviour without making the change explicit in the model name?

Alas, one of the commands that Watchpower will be relying on for most of its information is the QPGS command, and it's one of the ones that has a different protocol at the DSP compared to the PC port of the removable display. So I predict that you'll have weird problems using Watchpower if bypassing the display.

So I'm sorry to say that your options aren't all that great, unless your inverter supplier can provide a replacement display, or you can repair the display. Or find a vendor that will sell you a display intended for the new VM IIIs, and hope that they know the difference between new and old VM IIIs.

Edit: The "comms board" in a King 1 (hopefully similar in a King II) is the board at the lower right in the photo below; this is where I expect the power supply for the display to be located:
