August 17, 20232 yr I have heard talk recently of a suspicion that solar installations could damage geyser elements. I cannot see how they could, but I would like to hear the views of others on this subject. Edited August 17, 20232 yr by Wardy missed a word
August 17, 20232 yr I doubt that is the case otherwise there would be a lot of threads discussing this and a lot of people would be experiencing issues.
August 17, 20232 yr The statement lacks a lot. Solar installations produce electricity at the voltage and frequency that household appliances use. https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2022-10-09-check-your-geyser-it-might-save-you-electricity-and-money/ Edited August 17, 20232 yr by Buyeye

COJ voltage my side fluctuates all the way from 190V post-loadshedding (low enough to shorten the lifespan of some devices such as fridges) to 222V; whereas output from the inverter is a rock-solid 230V. Similarly of all the devices that could get damaged, regular electric geysers aren't likely candidates due to their fundamental simplicity (a basic thermostat, a tank to hold water, and a heating element - basically just a large resistor.). There're no super-sensitive electronics there...
August 17, 20232 yr Author Thank you all for the feedback. I support what you are saying. I just wanted to check.

But maybe somebody had solar installed and coincidentally their geyser element popped a couple of days later (and would have anyway). So when something goes wrong, a quite natural question to ask is "what changed?".
