Inverters damaging geyser elements

Featured Replies

I have heard talk recently of a suspicion that solar installations could damage geyser elements. I cannot see how they could, but I would like to hear the views of others on this subject.

The statement lacks a lot. Solar installations produce electricity at the voltage and frequency that household appliances use.

Exactly,

Not to mention that inverter voltage regulation is sometimes dramatically more stable than council power.

COJ voltage my side fluctuates all the way from 190V post-loadshedding (low enough to shorten the lifespan of some devices such as fridges) to 222V; whereas output from the inverter is a rock-solid 230V.

Similarly of all the devices that could get damaged, regular electric geysers aren't likely candidates due to their fundamental simplicity (a basic thermostat, a tank to hold water, and a heating element - basically just a large resistor.). There're no super-sensitive electronics there...

I can't see it. But maybe somebody had solar installed and coincidentally their geyser element popped a couple of days later (and would have anyway). So when something goes wrong, a quite natural question to ask is "what changed?".
