Have installed 3x OGS5.6 in three phase configuration from Kodak (believe this is the standard Voltronic Axpert MKS IV 5.6). Batteries are 6x Shoto 5.12kWh SDC10-Box 5s.

No BMS connected to the Shotos-user settings on batteries on the inverters.

Installation had nuisance tripping for a year-irregular, not really load dependent or phase dependent. Trips out and recovers sometime later-there are no logs on WatchPower either.

We suspected earthing issues or wandering earth neutral voltage and tested-input and output neutrals are bonded, earth bonded to neutral in incomer panel less than 10m away (installation is very near main incomer box behind all protections).
Resolution from Segen Solar was to update the firmware on all three inverters. We purchased the cables and have driven out 600 kms only to find the update program only works on the newly supplied unit, and the other two do not respond at all.

One inverter failed and had to replaced with a new one.

New inverter - Main CPU version (successfully updated to) 52.02. from 52.01, Secondary CPU version 36.03.

Older inverters - Main CPU version

When I run this version and change the hex file to the one that worked with the newer inverter, the inverter does respond and go to UPG mode, but shortly just comes back out of it. Even tried with the firmware directly supplied in the link and had the same issue.

Updates are done with Segen supplied USB A to DB9 USB to Serial RS232 converter, then using the cable that came with the inverters (DB9 to RJ45) to connect and perform the updates. Connected on COM port on the inverter, left of BMS port, and tried on two different machines.

I have seen that @Steve87 has successfully completed some relatively identical installations with the same inverters-please let me know if you can assist.

Would be hugely greatful for any assistance on the issue.

Hi @BezBot2sorry to hear of your troubles. I have successfully installed quite a few of these machines in 3 phase config with relative ease. 

When you say that there is tripping: can you explain exactly what trips ? What are your AC in & AC output MCB breaker sizes ? Where is your earth leakages positioned? 

All these add value to helping you. These machines work very well in 3 phase config. I'm almost certain that this is wiring or hardware issue with how it's been installed. 

Hopefully we sort this out with some troubleshooting...

in a tough situation with this. Install is remote for a family friend and have been here 5 times for this. 
 

no breakers trip- the output of all three inverters goes off for about 10-15 seconds with no logs from WatchPower. 

We played with earths and put in shielded cables for paralleling but it didn’t resolve the issue

now, in the last 20 minutes, when we tried to reboot the inverters in parallel mode, they give an F80 error (either the updated one or the other two ones that we couldn’t update). I figure the update has made them communication incompatible now as well. 
 

I’ve left them as three single phase inverters and limited dc charge to half maximum for the bank. 
 

there’s only one three phase load on site (borehole pump)

the first two inverters are from July 2022 and the recent one was bought this week

you wouldn’t happen to have a repository of the latest tool and files for them?

F80 CAN fault is usually when the DB9 cables have an issue. The ones used for paralleling. This type of fault could also be a bad Parallel card. 

A quick question: When the inverters stop their output do the inverters stay in 3P1 / 3P2 & 3P3? Or does one of them revert to single phase & factory reset???

Going to keep taggin you because I'm not really sure how this forum and its notifications work.

For clarity, let's refer to them as inverter L1, L2, and L3 after their phases.

L3 inverter failed, and was replaced with a new one on this trip.

The inverter failed as a result of water ingress in the area. As such, we moved the installation to a new area that changed the order of the inverters.

L3 inverter was replaced, and became L1 inverter (this is the inverter we successfully updated). This is now known as L1 inverter (New).

L2 remained L2, and L1 took over L3 phase.

The inverters (original L1 New, L2  old and L3 old) and their cables worked perfectly prior to the update on the new L1 inverter.

We put all the inverters in single phase mode, and from there update the new L1 inverter, which successfully took.
As per the above and using the same program and hex file and cables, we were unable to update L3 old and L2 old inverters.


When we gave up out of distilled frustration and tried to set the inverters back to 3P1, 3P2, and 3P3, at which point they gave the error F80.


We relooked at the CAN cables and reconnected them making sure because we thought something might be wrong-no dice. In the failure to start in 3-phase mode, either L1 new (succesfully updated) shows a 3P1 blinking F80 and the others show 3P2 (L2 old-failed to update) and 3P3 (L3 old-failed to update) with no F80, or vice versa (the L3 old and L2 old show 3P2 and 3P3 blinking with F80, and L1 New does not show the F80).

I am not sure if the chip changes and so on are the reason we couldn't update the older two and were succesful with the one bought last week.

I don't have 52.xx firmware for the Axpert MKS IV to confirm, but I'm pretty sure that the 52.xx is for the '28066 chipset, while the 74.xx is the same thing compiled for the '2809 chipset. These are not compatible, and the inverter will refuse to load the wrong one (fortunately, although you could probably force it and brick your inverter).

In general, you can't mix different major firmware version numbers (the two digits before the dot, like 52 and 74 above). The exception are the 9x.xx firmwares, which are supposedly experimental and a mix of many models, power levels, chipsets, etc etc.

So I'm 99% sure that this is what is going on.

Is that 6 battery modules all in parallel, connected to each of the three inverters, or two battery modules per inverter?

They need to be all in parallel, or strange things are going to happen.

The version of the older inverters appears to be missing from your post.

You possibly have a mix of '28066 and '2809 processors. My understanding is that you should be able to successfully run a mix of 52.xx and 74.yy, as long as the xx and yy are either the same or very close. If the firmwares aren't compatible (technically, they have different value for what I call the compatibility ID or constant), then you should get fault code 71, not fault code 80. There are three causes in the firmware I'm most familiar with, all to do with the paralleling hardware.

It may be that one of the paralleling boards became damaged in the move and/or reconfiguration, assuming that you're completely confident of the parallel wiring. Of course, you will not be using the current sharing cables, since you have only one inverter per phase.
