Fivestar 3kva 24vdc

Good day all forum members. I have acquired (not bought ) a Fivestar 3kva inverter with a 25.6v 170ah Fivestar lifepo4 battery. This unit will serve a very light load( 400w peak) for lights in my packing station. I though while i have it might put it to good use. This inverter setting is totally diffrent to my Sunsynk. I don't have a manual for the inverter so difficult to figure out how to get to the setup menu. I need some assistance in setting up this unit. Is there a way to set up remote monitoring on this inverter. Any assistance will be highly appreciated.

Good day @Derek3 the range of Fivestar inverters are a bit diffrent to the Voltronic inverters and are not diffucult to set up if you understand the logic, but one confusing factor is the default setup is in 12v configuration meaning that the bulk charge voltage on the 24v inverter will show in 12v format but for the 24v inverter whatever you set you need to times it by 2 and for 48v inverter times it by 4.

Example: Setting bulk charge to 14v is then going to charge at 28v on the 24v inverter.

Below screenshots of the setup procedure and program numbers and explanation of what they represent. If you are not sure we can assist.

Good evening @TaliaB

The inverter and battery is mounted and connected but i have a few questions regarding the setting and the size and amount of solar panels that could be connected to the Fivestar inverter. The label on the side of the inverter states PWM charge controller.  Parameter #04 i left on 100% #05 100% Please help with parameters #06 - #10.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Ps the Sunsynk you installed are performing above my expectations still going strong.

Hi Derek

Parameter setup:

06-14.2v

07-13.6v

08-10.8v

09-12v

10- 13.5v

Solar panel recommendation 2x 550w Ja solar panels(JAM72S30-550MR) connected in parallel.

Voc 49.9v

Imp 2x 13.11A= 26.22A

I am glad to hear the Sunsynk is performing to standard.

Good morning forum,

I just have a question for the installers or people familiar with solar array design. As jou can see from previous post i have an Fivestar 3kva inverter paired with 25.6v 170ah Fivestar lfp battery. My question is, i have 2 x 460w mono solar panels do i connect the panels in series of parallel? The inverter has an pwm charge controller with maximum dc input voltage of 105v Voc. I am in Upington as i know that the panels will be derated during high temperatures. Below panel specifications. Advice would be highly appreciated.

Both should technically work, but I'd go parallel for greater efficiency.

Check the inverter's solar charger operating range in the manual. Quick Google search suggests it's 30-40V but don't take that as gospel, take it from the source. Main point is, it's a PWM charger, so it will only charge a bit above the battery Voltage, and 30-34V is in line with the Vmp of the panel. Putting it in series at 74V will be a waste of potential power generation.

Sorry to ask @Derek3 if this inverter was acquired from your neighbor Johan then i am sure if i remember correctly the Fivestar 3kva 24v inverter was the Mppt version. When i removed the Fivestar for the Sunsynk 5kw upgrade i could have sworn the side label indicated mppt. And another clue was the 3 x 350w Canadian panels was connected in series 3s1p and they have a Voc of 40.2v should he had the pwm model the controller would not have survived. Just check the side label and confirm if the charge controller is pwm or mppt. If it is the pwm version then @GreenFieldsare 100% correct and i apologize.

Oh dearie me i feel so embarrassed 😳😣 you are correct @TaliaBit is the mppt model as stipulated on the label. Very sorry @GreenFieldsgiving you incorrect information and wasting your time i suppose this changes matters concerning the solar panels connection configuration.

No problem. Looking at this spec sheet, nothing would have been damaged either way, it's just a question of efficiency. On the MPPT model a series connection is probably better. But it looks like you're in good hands with @TaliaB
