December 29, 20232 yr Good day everyone, I was reading through allot of threads on here and also looking at You Tube videos, but they all seem very confusing to me. I was hoping to get some clarity and help please on running a Deye 5kw inverter to achieve the below. I also have Solar Assistant and 2 5.12kw Dyness batteries with 8 x 450 Panels. 1. I only want to change my batteries during the day using solar. I have set Grid Charge to off, seems to work fine. Problem is that only cloudy days when solar is not enough to power load, it uses the grid to supplement, I want the batteries to supplement and not the grid. 2. Then I want to use the batteries until about 8-9pm at night to run my heavy loads and then switch back to grid for the rest of the night until the next morning where Solar/Battery will kick in again and also start charging the batteries from solar again. The reason I want to do this, is try to use as little power from the grid as possible. From what I can gather is that I need to change the settings under Work Mode timer, but they only allow me to time start. Time end is greyed out, then is also ask power, voltage and Grid Charge, makes no sense to me. Please help.
December 29, 20232 yr Jaco, try changing your settings on the inverter (or through SA) to the following. Note Work Mode Time uses State of Charge. Once you have done that, then you can play around with the % charge you want for your batteries. At the moment, you have it set to Voltage. However, do note, that in some circumstances, you will end up using some grid during the day when loads are high and solar is poor. But when you have loadshedding, the grid usage will not happen and power will come from solar and batteries in varying amounts. On my system (see details in signature below), I am using on average 300-400 watts of Grid per day, which for me is acceptable for what I have installed. Hope this helps. I have made the changes, now just to monitor and see if it helps with my consumption, I am sure it, otherwise I will change the % like you said and see what differences it makes. Your Work Mode is currently "Zero Export to Load." If your intention is to use battery power for your heavy loads at night, and if these are on the non-essential circuits, you may need to use "Zero Export to CT" 2. You could raise your charge limit to at least 80A if wiring allows. With two batteries this should be fairly safely within limits. Mainly, it will allow you to make better use of the available solar power during the day, and allow you to charge more rapidly from the grid if needed, ie. 40A solar charge limit is 2kW, when you've got 3.6kW of panels installed, and a 20A Grid Charge limit to charge 200Ah of batteries could take up to 10 hours.
