January 28, 20242 yr I am currently using MPPT1 on my system and considering adding panels to MPPT2. The spec sheet states Max Input Current (A) 18A + 9A. Does this mean that MPPT2 is rated 9A? Or what does that mean?

Yes Mppt1 can have 2 strings in parallel of the right specs and MPPT only 1 string and not over 9A which are smaller panels like 270-300W if no clipping takes place. Some higher Watts might also be at around 9A but not many. Canadian poly panels in the 380-420W range would have limited clipping and suited for MPPT2 Edited January 28, 20242 yr by Scorp007

January 28, 20242 yr Author Aha, my model is the 8K-SG01LP1 which I see has Max PV isc 44A + 44A What got me was this attached data sheet which states the 18A + 9A. Thanks @JayMardern for pointing me to look again. Looks like Sunsynk can't proof read their publications to adjust for different models but just cut and paste. Also today the app stopped working since about 3.20 am and came back about 12 hrs later!! Beginning to loose a bit of confidence in choosing Sunsynk above Deye. Was the extra cost worth it. Hmmm. Sunsynk-8.8kW-datasheet-print.pdf

Seems like many versions of specs floating around. In this picture it lists the model as the same as yours and 18A + 18A. Recent indications were 22/22A and 26/26A. Also your specs show a maximum of 8800W PV input and the attached pic shows 10400W. The 44 + 44A seems a very high upgrade. Edited January 28, 20242 yr by Scorp007 Added pic

But because it's not complicated enough already, different firmware versions will use different maximums of current per MPPT. More on this in the thread here but 18A is the figure that seems to apply to all firmware so provided your plaque says 18A or more under 'PV Input Current', you're good to go and you shouldn't get any clipping if targeting 18A. Whilst the portal goes down every few weeks (and when it does, it's almost always on a Sunday morning - but normally for much shorter than yesterday), it's still pretty useful to me the rest of the time; my daily production graph lives on my spare monitor all day long. (And while it was down at least the screen on the inverter itself gives the graphs and summaries). But for guys buying Solar Assistant boxes (that don't need the free Sunsynk app and portal), I'd probably lean towards Deye for the same hardware at a slightly lower price (along with quicker support turn-around times on hardware repairs). Have been sufficiently satisfied with my own purchase (a 5kW Sunsynk) that I have another one sitting next to me in its box waiting to be paralleled.
