December 28, 20187 yr Good Morning, I had the following items: mecer LOBO 2400 inverter with 4 x 120ah royal batteries (24v connected) upgraded to the following items: Axpert 5kVA inverter (thesunpays) with 6 x 325 Amerisolar panels (connected 3 in series then 2 in parallel recommended to V and Amps required) My question is this, do I need to replace the current batteries as somewhere is read that I need 200ah battery bank for the Axpert, is that the case then what batteries would you suggest, the reason for this question is because the inverter keeps charging the batteries will it not damage the batteries in the long run and what settings do I need to config on the inverter, as I followed the suggestion on the forum. I do not get more than 350w from my solar panels displays on the inverter, I have measured the 3 panels in series and parallel and seems to be ok, and on the inverter I do get the voltage as per solar array, but minimum watts, the only load currently on the inverter / batteries is the lights in the house connected, I want to add the fridge / freezer too. I got an electrician booked to come out for the coc but don't want to that before I got all the crinkles and kinks worked out. Samsed
December 28, 20187 yr Hi Samsed , the Axpert inverter only takes the power it needs from the panels . What is your load at this moment . If you increase the load the amount of power taken from the panels should increase . If you add 400 watt extra load the watts should increase 400 watt . The battery bank you have is small for the size inverter you use . The Royal batteries is more of a UPS battery . If you discharge them to 50% DOD (48 volt ) they won't last very long +- 250 cycles . If you keep them around 10% DOD ( 50 volt ) they will last a few years . The choice of the battery bank you need depends on what you want to use them for . The Manual states at least 200 Ah . There are people with more experience than me to help you with the choice . The Trojan batteries give a wide range of batteries with a high cycle life 1500 at 50% discharge . Pylontech lithium batteries claims 6000 cycles at 80 % discharge . My advice would be to keep the Royals . Try and keep the voltage above 50 volt ( Setting 12 voltage point back to utility - 50 volt ) not lower than 49,6 volt and first learn more about your system before you spend money on new batteries .
