DEYE RS485 port stopped working - Solution

Hi Everyone, 

Just wanted to share my experience with the RS485 port on my DEYE 16kw. 

In  December the DATA coming from my inverter stopped working, I wasn't getting anything coming through.

I initially thought it might be a faulty RS485 board as the ESP32 was running without issue and I swopped the board out for a new one. 

It made no difference and was still not getting any data. 

I tried using the battery's BMS port and split it into the CANBUS/RS485 ports which worked. 

I assumed that the RS485 port was faulty and stopped in to speak to the guys at DEYE who are luckily located about 3km away from my house in Kyalami. 

One of the engineers agreed to save me having to bring the inverter into their offices for repair and said he would swop the comms card in the inverter out onsite for me. 

When he came onsite, I decided to check the RS485 port again and IT WAS WORKING!!

I could not figure it out as I had tried it a number of times and it had never worked. 

This morning the RS485 port was returning 0 values for everything and I decided to try "rebooting" my inverter, after the reboot the RS485 port is working again and returning values correctly 🙂 

I am assuming that there may be an issue with some software hanging in the inverter

There is definitely a Deye RS485 issue. The ports just randomly die. Got hold of China support and they told us to use the "meter" port. I suspect they broke something in a firmware update. Took us days of tripple checking our side at a huge site until we finally got some support that tentatively admitted they have a problem their side.

I am sitting in this same boat, ESP32 device worked perfectly for months, and now it just doesn't get any comms from the RS485 port on my inverter.

I have tried everything, even the comms board has been replaced on my inverter, still doesn't want to communicate at all...

Does anyone have an idea what can be done? if the RS485 could be disabled or a setting somewhere that I might have missed?

You can split the port the battery is on into the Canbus & RS485 ports. 

The easiest way to do it is using a 2 port wall mount RJ45 and then just take the relevant pins to each of the two ports.

Thanks Sc00bs, Tried this, but still seems to be the same, don't receive an response from the inverter... Even tried setting up new esp32 as well as rs485 module.

Tried the CAN port split as suggested, doesn't seem to work, guess I will have to remove the inverter from the wall again and send it in...

The ESP32 and RS485 works fine when I plug it into my friends inverter, same code and wiring just different wifi setup...

Trouble is the repairer doesn't have a real way to test the RS485 port on their side...

Sounds like it could be faulty then. 

Are comms to your battery BMS still working?

How does one tell if the BMS comms still work? Nothing on the inverter indicates it. If I unplug BMS I see no difference on the inverter either (maybe it takes a bit of time?)

I have a sun-12k-sg02lp1-eu-am3, I got the solar-assistant deye splitter, but my rs485 comms don't work. Trying to diagnose, it is a brand new inverter.

Is difficult to know whether what you are seeing on your inverter is correct or not without knowing what you are seeing.

Perhaps post the display screen from the BMS info part of the menu
