February 14, 20242 yr Hi there peeps Just thought I'd mention that Home Assistant now supports Tuya devices natively - no more need for dveloper accounts and all that nonsense to use MyTuya. If you have the device enrolled in the Smart Life App it is now immidiately available in HA using the standard Tuya integration. Edited February 15, 20242 yr by Douw G. Gerber
February 15, 20242 yr OK, but the whole idea with localTuya, for instance was that no data would go to the internet and I assumed no internet connection was required... this of course ended up being nonsense, since if the Tuya devices can't get to the internet, they won't function. The Tuya integration is not new, but I am less than happy that it always requires data making its way to the internet, when local control is really what I would want and with an iffy internet what I would need. I also think that most people would, after thinking about it, not really want their usage patterns etc. make its way to some outfits server in the internet out there... So, if you can avoid Tuya, I suggest you do, unfortunately I do not know what to recommend, Tasmota has been mentioned, but I don't know enough about it at this stage to give it the thumbs up or down...

Agreed, if you don't like your data going to the cloud then Tuya might not be for you. I personally don't care if the chinese know how many times a day my lights go on and off and such - nothing of reall personal importance runs on Tuya for me. The Tuya integration is indeed not new - but was a ball ache in the past with developer accounts required etc. In the past your devices would only work for six months then you would have to go and ask for a license renewal and such on their site.

Ok, I'm not too worried about the data going to outer mongolia, but the fact that the internet could be awol here for many hours and all of a sudden none of your Tuya devices want to talk to you anymore makes this lot a pile of horsemanure... even the local Tuya integration still needs to have the Tuya devices call home via the internet to continue to function...

April 10, 20242 yr Not sure if the Python library TinyTuya https://github.com/jasonacox/tinytuya can be used inside HA. I use TinyTuya in my own code which works locally My requirement was to save the IoT data into a PostgreSQL database. Unfortunately you still need to register the Tuya device, but once registered I guess you could block internet access from your IoT vlan. My preference is to flash the devices with Tasmota where possible. Edited April 10, 20242 yr by system32
