March 8, 20242 yr Hi All I need some help on SANS regulations to be COC compliant. Lets keep this simple. I want to have to have a dedicated plug (red plug) and normal plug on a double plug outlet. There is currently one piece of conduit running towards it. 1. I believe I can run house wire in conduit. Correct? 2. Are the two circuits allowed in the same conduit? 3. As the circuits will share earth, do I need 2 earth cables or can I use a common one? Appreciate the responses. This is for an off grid installation and I will get an electrician to COC and connect to grid.

I can't think of why not, they're both AC and should be protected in their respective DB with a CB of appropriate value 26 minutes ago, ec.brink said: 3. Earth should be earth in your installation, whether the dedicated plug come off a UPS/Inverter or just pre Earth leakage trip switch, the earth for all electrical connections should be the same... so, I'd say you can probably use the same earth for both plugs... maybe some else can come up with a scenario where it may be better to keep the earths for the 2 plugs separated. but offhand, I can't think of any reason...

Each wire size has a factor for use in any specific conduit size as per SANS.

SANS provides a C factor per wire size as well as the total K per conduit size. The maximum for 20mm conduit will be 2x2.5sq mm plus 4x4sq mm. K for 20mm conduit is 90. These figures happen to be the maximum one can pull through the conduit having 2x90 degree bends between conduit boxes. Edited March 11, 20242 yr by Scorp007
March 11, 20242 yr Author Plugs are rated 16A so 2.5mm. for two circuits, each with their own live and neutral and then a ground (I like insulated ground wires) another 2.5mm. I was gonna measure their diameter with my calipers, work out area, work out area for 20mm conduit, times by 0,45, and so on.
