June 12, 20242 yr Hi all, I'm new to the forum and firstly want to say hi! I'm very interested in buying this tank / water heater from Magneto. I see it's WiFi compatible. I have 3 questions please: Is it possible to control the device without internet? Meaning local WiFi connection only? Can it be added to Home Assistant? I don't see any integrations available at the moment. Can you flash the device with ESPHome? I'd appreciate any help on this. Kind regards, Robbie
June 19, 20242 yr Hi I have the original EMS tanks. It's the same device just relabelled. To answer your questions: 1. Yes you can control it via Wi-Fi on local network, however for initial setup I think you do need Internet connection. The device uses the Smart life app for control. It is a Tuya device. 2. You can add it to Home Assistant through the Tuya Local HACS integration. I contributed to the device recognition, it is called EMS Waterhear in the Tuya Local device listing. 3. This I have not tried, not sure of this can done on Tuya devices. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can answer this. I have been running on this for almost a year now in HA without any issues. And Magneto/EMS after service has been fantastic.

I really believe in local control since we have very unreliable internet. You have been a great help! I'm still hoping that someone on the group was enthusiastic enough to successfully flash ESPHome on it 😁
September 5, 20241 yr @Robbie3337, No, ESPhome cannot be flashed on Tuya based devices, as it doesn't use ESP32 module. It's the same with the ASTUTE Wifi switch. But someone here on the forum has successfully de-soldered the Tuya chip and replaced it with an ESP32 chip, so if you have the skill, tools and a steady hand, give it a go. When I integrated my Astute into HA using the old Tuya server method, I kept loosing the power tracking ability every few days, but after moving to Tuya local, it has been working flawlessly.

Thanks a lot for your reply. You aren't going to believe this, but you actually replied on the same day we received our Magneto Thermo Tank haha. So I tried the LocalTuya integration, but it wants me to pay. I extracted the local keys by using a rooted Android device and I can successfully power on and off the device. Changing the target temperature and viewing the current tank temp also works, but changing the mode does not. Do you or anyone on this forum have experience in manually configuring devices on the LocalTuya integration without just pulling the device from the cloud? I'd appreciate any assistance. Kind regards, Robbie

Hi nk00li, I actually see that I was using the wrong "local tuya" integration in HACS. I was using this one. When I searched "EMS Waterheater Local Tuya" I came across this repository on Github. Everything except for the timers works. I set it to turn on at 7AM and off at 5PM. The timer executes, but doesn't make the device switch off. Even in the Smart Life app, the functionality isn't working after adding the device to Home Assistant. Have you also experienced this issue?
September 21, 20241 yr I have not experienced that issue. In terms of the integration, I use this one https://github.com/make-all/tuya-local

Hi nk00li, thanks for adding the EMS heat pump to the Tuya Local HACS integrationI am also using it to manage my EMS heat pump on Home AssistantI think the unit I have is not performing up to standard, it takes about 157 min on heat pump only mode to heat the water from 47c to 60c, according to its spec the heat pump has a heat capacity of about 3Kw.3Kw should take about 60min to heat 200L from 47c to 60c according to various online water heating calculators I have checked. Can you possibly share with me how long it takes your Magneto (EMS) heat pump to heat water from 47c to 60c. Anyone else that have this unit can also comment on their experiences please.

I have attached the results (we were using warm water as well in this timeframe. It basically took 4 hours to reach 60c from 49cI do have a question though, how did you add your Magneto / EMS to Home Assistant? I tried after receiving my replacement unit, but can't remember what I'm doing wrong haha.

I'm done with this Tuya rubbish
