I wonder if anyone makes sense from the barcodes on the stickers found on all voltronic (and off brand/clones/rebranded) inverters..

Searching online does not bring up any findings of a product match for any barcode I have searched for ..

Is there a way to verify which model each inverter is ie by their serial numbers? but then.. where are those serial numbers usually?

No, sadly. The first 4 digits indicate a very broad range of models, e.g. MAXs versus VMs and MKSs. They have 4 digits there, they could have a unique number for each model.

The barcodes sadly only contain the serial number, and the QR codes only contain a string indicating that they are made by Voltronics. But the latter is a recent thing, and I get the impression that they don't always do it any more.

There is also the response to the QMN (Query Model Name/Number) and QGMN (Query General Model Number) commands, but again they missed their chance. The QMN response only says something like "AXPERT VMII-8000" for an 8 kW Max (so it's not even accurate). The QGMN response is three digits, but so far the fist digit is always 0! They don't distinguish between minor power limits (6200 versus 6000 W for example), or 2809 versus 28066 DSP, 64 V max battery voltage versus 62 versus 56.4 V) etc. At least the rated power level is returned by the QPIRI command, as is the nominal battery voltage. I think it's so that WatchPower and other monitoring software can cope with new models; a poor excuse in my opinion. If monitoring software comes across a model it's not familiar with, just say so, don't guess!

They are returned as responses of certain commands; these commands get the serial number from the tiny EEPROM chip on the control board. When something goes wrong with that, you get all ones, representing 65535, hence a "null" serial number is that 5535 5535... number (last 4 or 2 digits of 65,535, or 2¹⁶-1),

That's why when someone asks me for what firmware to update their Voltronic inverter to, I ask for the existing firmware version number. That's still not unique, as there are many overlaps, but with a few other clues, the model can usually be identified completely. The firmware version number(s) is(are) stored in the flash memory of the DS Processor (DSP). A few firmwares will report different firmware numbers depending on a voltage measured at power up; they then behave as 230 V or 120 V models depending on this voltage. I still don't know if that voltage comes from the main board (as would make sense), or it depends on resistors loaded on the control board. If the latter is the case, then it would be easy to use the wrong control board and cause some oopsies 😧.

Perhaps you mean that when the inverter switches from battery powering the load to AC input powering the load or vice versa some appliances drop out or lights flicker. This can happen because of the brief changeover period (some 10-20 milliseconds usually, i.e. one or two hundredths of a second) when there is no power to the loads.

Axpert inverters have a special circuit that attempts to make this changeover quicker, closer to the 10 ms than 20 ms. But this only happens with certain settings and in certain circumstances.

If it's really annoying, it might be worth running a small Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) just for the sensitive loads.
