I have a question about how this inverter charges the battery.

There are 3 x SHOTO 5100Wh batteries in parallel, monitored by Solar Assistant

There are a total of 8 PV panels shared between PV-1 and PV-2. The daily solar input averages between 4kW on a cloudy day to 9kW on sunny days (see chart below)

Programming location 01 is set to Sub (Solar first)

Location 02 is 80A (maximum charging)

Location 11 is 40A (utility charging)

Location 16 is Snu (Solar + utility charging)

I notice that today, which is 90% cloud with (at the moment) 390 watts solar input, 190 watt load, 155 watt grid, the total battery charging is 220 watts

If the cloud becomes close to 100%, then charging drops to 0 watts

The SOC of the batteries is 45%, 29% and 36% respectively.

The question is: Should not the utility charger not also charge the batteries? If so, how may this be achieved?

Hello there

One of the poor design choices with the 7.2OG is the way the grid is handled. In order to charge with the grid, the inverter must be in bypass mode. This means, the output source priority must be set to utility first/only (not solar).

Also, ensure the charger source priority includes utility.

This is all at least from any of the firmware versions I have tried on my two 7.2s.

A compromise I thought of is to use the Timer Setting for Output Source Priority to USB between 07h00 and 10h00, by which time there should be sufficient sun to operate the system

No, I cannot see any problem with that. I imagine that is one of the main reasons that is there.

Personally, I have never used that, though.
