How to measure SOC individually on a bank of 4 batteries with a Sunsynk inverter
The batteries are SHOTO Sdc Box 10 Battery 1 is connected via the CAN port on battery and inverter Batteries 2, 3 and 4 are connected using the RS485 ports to battery 1 The battery list on Synsynk connect shows nothing

Eskom the turning wheel
In the greater Cape Town transmission system, individual blocks can be managed at a switching control station in Newlands. It even goes as far as individual sub-stations if necessary On the wall, measuring 12m x 4m is a display of the area served by City of Cape Town as far as Gordon's Bay. Each sub-station is identifiable and the operator can see the local load If for instance a sub-station in Fish Hoek fails or is undergoing maintenance, supply can be diverted (up to a point) from another area

I contacted Pablo at Sunskyn and he arranged a firmware upgrade for the inverter The Remote option appeared and many more options on the mobile phone app Helpful guy - [email protected]

The manual, under "Basic Setup" offers a Remote Control facility Has this option been discontinued? On the unit I am using, this option is not there

How do you specify a charge rate for a specific time period?
-
Any Sunskyn boffins on this forum?
Reading the installer manual carefully, I note the following: Solar always charges the batteries If a time period is set to grid-charge at 75%, then the grid will only commence charging if the SOC is below that value at the commencement of the charging period Example: The time period is set to,operate from 15:00 to 19:00 at 75%. AC is switched on. At 15:00, the SOC was 84%. Therefore grid charging did not start This is exactly how I envisaged it should work. This is not well explained in the training manual, a lot of which seems to apply to oldder models

Your suggestion sounds sensible The geyser is not powered by the inverter. It has its own solar system managed by a Geyserwise ECO, been in 10 years now Line 4 - 13:00 to 17:00 95%. Does this mean that the grid will switch on (for charging) if the SOC is below 95% or does it mean it won't charge higher than 95% What does the power column do? Does it restrict the output? Here's my latest effort

Thank you I had done exactly this over the past 3 days. After replacing the batteries, it registered 100% SOC within an hour There is one setting that puzzles me This is the System mode timer. What does the % column indicate? As mentioned before, AC is off from October to mid-March For the period 16th March to 30th September, there is insufficient PV power to run the house 24 hours a day. It needs grid input for some of the time. By 15h00 the PV panels will have charged the batteries a bit, unless its a cloudy overcast day, of which there are a lot of in a Cape Town winter I programmed the System mode as follows: Is this the correct approach, or am I reading the instruction book incorrectly? Thanks (again)

Sunsynk 5kw Inverter AC and DC temp Very High
I fitted a 12cm fan on the inlet on the RHS Its a 12 volt fan, powered by the 12V DC supply in the inverter The temp used to reach 61 deg, now it never goes above 52 deg. On Monday 16th it was 38 deg outside and the inverter showed 52 deg Right now it is 26 deg outside, the inverter is 46 deg

I am having a hassle with Livestainable Ordered a set of cables and a 3-pole battery disconnect switch and fuses The website image showed a APTSA switch and said "fuses" It took 7 days for half the order to be delivered with a different brand of switch. The carton was damaged, had been repaired with brown adhesive tape and a short piece on top. One good shake and a small box fell out There was only one fuse An email to Livestainable asked for a picture, but didn't specify what of. I sent a picture of box with a label "3 fuses" and the inside showing one The next email from Livestainable said I was confused and only 2 fuses are supplied and said this was mentioned on the website. Well, it is not Still waiting for the set of cables. I told L to stop procrastinating and send the goods ordered, or a complaint will be lodged with the National Consumer Commission

The inverter and 4 batteries are in a small under stairs cloakroom which measures 2,3m x 1,8m and also houses the DB, alarm panel, alarm battery and switch for the IP intercom. The opposite wall has raincoats and cushions on shelves So pictures will only show a small portion I have another question please: Another installer (he is in Upington) said that detailed battery parameters can be read from the BMS tab on the display and also the mobile app. I cannot see anything on both screens. Perhaps I am missing something? I spoke to the SHOTO sales guy here in Cape Town and he said that they do not have a device to read individual batteries. Is there is another make which can do this?

Don't forget Infinity Group Companies in KZN They have scammed numerous people I had their website taken down and opened a case with the National Consumer Commission The NCC found that the registered address of the company is false. There is a building at this address, but they have never occupied it. The building owner said that people had been coming to the address for 3 years looking for them The CEO's name is Christopher Gold

Despite the cables from each battery being the same diameter (35mm) and length (1400mm) for both negative and positive, battery 2 consistently showed a lower voltage when measured individually. The batteries are disconnected about 2 or 3 times a year so everything can be cleaned and rid of dust. In 2011 I had 12 x 100 a/h lead-acid batteries and there was tracking across the terminals. I think they leaked a bit or got damp An electrician friend suggested linking each battery together and since there are 2 sets of terminals on each battery, this was easy to do. For some reason, when I cleaned up in January when changing the inverter from a Mecer to a Sunskyn, all the batteries were within 2 volts of each other

Its done the first way Its been sunny today. The inverter showed 99% by 13h30. I'd like a gadget or software that showed me the state of each battery

Need box to send inverter and battery to Johannesburg
I looked in vain for reinforced boxes What I did worked fine. The battery weighed 53kg and arrived in excellent condition. A few scuff marks I got the polystyrene sheets from Styro in Epping. Very cheap. You can cut it with a box cutter

Thank you I have been very careful to keep the cable length and diameter the same for all the batteries. Each battery is separately supported by a wall bracket and 300mm away and below the inverter. In addition, each + and - is connected together There is a 4-pole isolator with 4 separate fuses What I decided to do was to enable grid charge for 4 hours. The overall SOC reached 99% and all 4 batteries now show all 4 lights on. I hope this means the problem is over One peculiar anomaly was that I could not get the grid charge to exceed 2.5 amps when solar and grid were charging.

Need box to send inverter and battery to Johannesburg
I bought a standard box from this shop, then inserted loose sheets the same size inside. All 6 sides Then, packed the battery tightly with polystyrene foam sheets so it took up all space. Then strapped the carton with nylon straps

Is there a way to see what individual batteries are doing? Of the 4 batteries, 1 shows 75%, 2 shows 25%, 3 and 4 show 75% (looking at the lights on the battery)

Any Sunskyn boffins on this forum?
What I was wanting to do was use the Grid to charge the batteries when there is insufficient sun, as in a Cape Winter quite often I thought to begin the Grid charging periods at 15h00 and let it run until 19h00 Is there a way to limit the maximum amperage Grid charging provided? And/or allow the inverter to draw power from both Grid and battery?

Any Sunskyn boffins on this forum?
Well, I am learning. Thanks gents Here are today's pictures I would mention this: The house is wired in the DB so that 30 of the 32 plugs points and all lighting is connected to the inverter supply. One plug has 2 sockets and one is used for the alarm's 16 volt transformer as there is a 10 a/h lithium battery in the alarm. These are connected to the incoming mains supply. Then the geyser is wired directly to the incoming mains. This only gets used in winter when its cold and cloudy Any further tweaks or advice welcomed! Is there a way to select the time when Grid is used for battery charging?
