Hi,

I have a 8kw Sunsynk inverter with 3 x Pylontech UP5000 batteries and 14 x 550w Solar panels. This setup has been running smoothly and without a hiccup for 2.5 years.

The last 2 days I have had the inverter disconnecting the AC load, feels like loadshedding or a powercut. However the Eskom feed is fine , streetlights are on and neigbours are fine. I basically then need to flip the breakers for the Eskom feed at my Solar DB board and once I flipped them back on then AC load is restored on the inverter. This has now happenend 3 or 4 times in the last 2 days.

I also get the "ghost disconnects" where I get notified of the disconnect and immediately after a notification of reconnect to the grid. We have been the lucky winner of getting a smart prepaid meter, but that is now 3 months running.

What can it be ? Is it the smart meter causing issues? I have upped the trickle charge to 30w from 20w , but still getting it. I tried looking at the graphs and logs , but the SunSynk app interval is an issue. I can see that the disconnects in the evening/early morning the Eskom feed sits at 240/244V , which is in range occording to me(there might be a spike I dont see in the data interval)

What can I check ? Should I get an installer to come check things out ?

Does the timing of the disconnects co-inside with the "busy" time of day, e.g. 6-8 mornings and 5-8 evenings? If so, it might just be that either the voltage or frequency of Eskom has drifted out of spec long enough for the Inverter to not "like" it, hence the disconnect.

There is a setup screen to "widen" the voltage and frequency range on these Inverters. Have a look at that.

Also recheck all AC wiring connections. A loose wire perhaps?

As @Sidewinder stated, it's the result of dirty power coming into the house and the inverter not liking it

When left alone, it should reconnect when the power is clean enough again

It is in busy times , more or less......looks like 16:30pm and 5:00am was some key times. also got a 12:15pm one.

I did look at the setup and the range is very wide, 185v to 265v , and 47.5hz to 51.5hz , i have not seen anything near those limits in the graph data to be honest.....but it could be a small spike not got by the data polling interval of the sunsynk software.

I do leave it alone, and there are reconnects straight after , but a few times now it has not reconnected at all.......for hours on end during the night , running my battery to shutdown. Only after my intervention of flipping the breakers does it reconnect. This is my concern, I am more than happy if it disconnects and reconnects later if the power is in range, but it does not at this point it seems.

This is my Setup for inverter, could be the Reconnect after trip settings not being setup ? Can anyone confirm their settings for this part ?

Am I the only one seeing people having issues with Sunsynk inverters? I see others having issues with the screens going dead and not being able to see or control anything. Considering how expensive the brand is, you would expect better reliability out of them.

I have now had two trip happening on a breaker switch, it is labeled as Eskom IN and has a 40A breaker. This breaker trips 22:55 at night.....(now two nights in a row) . See the picture below for the Grey/black breaker that trips .

Could this be that the breaker is faulty ? Why would it trip if the house is running of Battery at that point and only the trickle feed is coming from eskom at 30w. is a 40A breaker fine for a 8800w inverter with the entire household + geysers running through it ? Surely I might pull 9kw or 10kw at points ?

Well the breaker is rated for 9200W. Should have been at least a 50A, even 60A as if you have a load of say 6kw and turn on a microwave that is typically 1.7kw, as uch as the running power is still under 9.2kw, a microwave has a big start up current which can easily cause nuicance trips. Your inverter can do 2x the rated power for a short while safely. You will keep getting nuicance trips anytime a load such as a pool pump or microwave turns on.

As for your weird trips, if you exceed the rating on the inverter, even temporarily, the inverter automatically switches to grid to supply the load. This is at least how most inverters works. I suspect this is what is happening. You are going over the inverter rating for short bursts and the inverter switches to the grid. But because your breaker is small, it also trips the breaker at such instances. This is what I suspect is causing your issues. Why it happens at 22:55 makes no sense to me.

it is weird for the 22:55 trips........load is not high at that point .....about 900w - 1.6kw (see screenshots below) ......had a trip during the day today aswell....it seems the trip happens when incoming voltages kreeps up over 240V.....in the 243V+ range ......

• might that trip a breaker ?

• the Voltage coming in drops then to 27V and not 0V ..........is that correct ?

problem solved :

Seems the breaker in the picture has burned , so it was on the Fritz....going out causing the weird trips. Replaced it with a new Breaker, hopefully the trips are at an end.
