Axper King 5KVA (MKIII)

Hi All,

I have taken delivery of some Axpert King 5KVA inverters, I have a couple of questions if someone could please assist (I would be most grateful)

1. The unit has a JR45 port for lithium battery comms ? is this enables as I cannot see it in the software.

2. The unit only has a RS-232 for comms to a computer, i have an RS-232 to USB but cannot get it to work (Tried Windows 10, 7 etc)

3. I want to use Lithium batteries with the unit, if you set the charged voltage and the cut off voltage is this how you work out the SOC (The issue with lithium is the variance is so small)

4. How would you set the unit to use 80% of the Battery and then go back to grid to charge (Can this be done by time) can you only charge with Solar ?

I would be happy to pay someone for a quick lesson on the different options the unit offers

Thanks

Only the most recently manufactured models will have the firmware for this, and I've only seen it on the Axpert VM IIIs. Is that what you have? The VM IIIs are quite different to the Kings; the Kings are parallelable, and have the low voltage SCC. The Kings have the display (when "docked") in the middle of the bottom of the inverter; the VM IIIs have the display on one corner. But the latest firmware will only talk directly to Pylontechs. You may be able to get your supplier to provide the latest firmware to enable this, if you need it, especially since you have bought multiple units.

You need it set to 2400 bps N/8/1, and you need to know what commands to send it. It's easiest to fire up the provided WatchPower software.

You can fiddle the settings so that the SOC will say 100% when fully charged, but it will fall back from 100% as soon as the charging stops. Just ignore the on-board SOC reporting.

ICC can do this at a given SOC, I don't know about time.

Yes, Charge Source Priority (setting 16) to OSO. ICC will have a similarly named option.

It has USB, RS-232, RS-485 and Bluetooth.  I've used both the USB and RS-232.  Haven't bothered with the other two but it is documented as being supported.

The USB port is on the bottom, it is a micro USB connector.

If you get your hands on the firmware please share.

Have you been able to get the mini usb port to connect to watch power etc ?

I don't have a Windows computer and I think watch power runs on Windows no? (all my computers run either Linux, FreeBSD or OSX)

I just connected using an app I wrote.  Didn't need to make any changes over the old Axpert MKI, it just worked as is.

The micro USB connector is flimsy, I tried 3 different cables before I found one that worked well.

I haven't used Windows in over 6 years but it used to have something called "Device Manager", does the Axpert show up when you plug it in?  It will show up as a human interface device.

No. There are versions for Linux and Mac, as well as Windows. For example from

http://www.mppsolar.com/manual/Watchpower (off-grid)/

I think earlier I may have helped spread the myth that it only runs on Windows; if so I apologise. Perhaps that was true many years ago.

Software updates for Axperts, however, do still require Windows.
