Hi everyone,

I have asked for help twice before, unfortunately without receiving any response or assistance from the group. My first post was on 29 July, and I posted again on 5 August.

I now have a more serious problem. One of my five Shoto 4.8 kWh 100 Ah batteries has stopped working because of a severe cell imbalance. The BMS has gone into protection and the battery will neither charge nor discharge.

I am asking once again, please, if there is anyone in this group who has experience with these Shoto batteries and knows how to reset, recover, balance, or repair this battery, I would really appreciate your help.

At the moment I simply cannot afford to replace the battery, so I am hoping that someone with the necessary knowledge and experience can guide me or help me get it working again.

If anyone knows a technician who repairs Shoto lithium batteries, I would also greatly appreciate their contact details.

Please help me if you can.

As per this post:
To recover a locked Shoto 4.8 kWh battery, disconnect it from the bank, isolate it, and apply a gentle, low-current charge (such as via a dedicated adjustable DC power supply or single-module setting) to wake the BMS. If the imbalance is severe, the internal passive balancer needs extended absorption time at a lower bulk voltage (52.5V–55.2V) to safely equalize the cells.

How old are the batteries that you have and what inverter are you using with them? Perhaps someone with more details experience can reply further then.

Hi KevinH Thank you very much for your quick response. The batteries are 2021 models, and the cycles are still very low.

Hello Swannie,

I may be able to help you diagnose the problem, but before doing anything, please send me the following information from the faulty SHOTO battery:

1. A clear photo of the battery label, showing the exact model and serial number.

2. A screenshot or photo from the BMS software showing the voltage of every individual cell (Cell 1, Cell 2, Cell 3, etc.).

3. A screenshot or photo showing the Alarm / Protection / Fault status from the BMS.

4. The total battery voltage measured directly at the battery terminals.

5. If possible, a screenshot showing the maximum cell voltage, minimum cell voltage, and the voltage difference between the cells.

6. Please also tell me whether the battery can currently charge or discharge at all.

Please do not connect the faulty battery back to the other four batteries and do not force it to charge or reset it yet.

Once you send me this information, I will, God willing, do my best to find a solution to the problem and help you identify the correct and safest way to recover the battery.
