Hi guys

yesterday I took on the task of upgrading my mks 5kva inverters. The first one went well and managed to upgrade it to 73.00 but the second one erased the old firmware and will not write the new firmware. I have got it to write about 4-11 blocked the I get a write fail. Can anyone please help. This is a parallel system and I now have one unusable inverter.

I also had one do that .I powered down the unit.Disconnected the battery.Removed the serial cable.Waited 5 min.Worked on 2nd attempt.

Just be aware that when you switch on the machine with incomplete firmware, it will behave like it's bricked: no LCD light, nothing on the LC Display at all, no LEDs. But that's expected, and with 99% certainty the bootloader will be running, waiting for another upload, so just have faith and perform the update again. Edit: some comm boards seem less reliable than others, but most of them seem to be able to accept a new firmware even if it takes a few goes. If you get desperate, consider swapping the comm boards, either temporarily, or leave them swapped until the next update.

Hi all

I managed to get the firmware loaded by dropping the bit rate on the com port to 4800 and it transferred the firmware successfully.

Thanks for the help.

PS i have added a second unit i got second hand but when i try parallel them i get error 80 and 82 any input on this? or should i start another topic for this?

I'm 99% sure that the reflash software forces the bit rate: 2400 initially, then 9600. So it was just trying it again.

Those are CAN bus errors. Most likely cable or parallel board faults, or the second hand unit is a clone and isn't quite up to spec.

Thanks for your help @Coulomb do you by any chance have the pin out for the cables. I didn’t get one with the second inverter so I had one made but maybe they didn’t make it correctly. I have looked all over for these cable but don’t seem to find them.

No, sorry. The parallel communication cables might be straight through (pin 5 to pin 5, etc), and they might even be EGA (Enhanced Graphics Adapter, the precursor to VGA) video cables. I don't have a cable here to buzz it out.

Hi. Yes it is the parallel comma cable we are talking about. I will have to get a comms board and cable to test.
