I remember it, because I remember that it was roughly twice what you get out of a Trojan, and I know by heart (by now) that the Trojan is 1600 at 50%. The curves for the 12V Lead Acid looks exactly the same as the ones for the 2V cell. In any case, my argument here was that for the LC to make sense in terms of cost, it has to cost less than double the cost of the Trojan per Ah. It doesn't. Therefore, end of story. The Trojan still wins. Not that I want it to. It's bloddy terrible that the messy acid-bucket wins. I also have it on some authority that we're somewhat screwed over in SA. LCs shouldn't cost as much as they do... Ok, you win. My math, using the batteries you used as example say different though. I used the 12V batteries price in that math since they're different batteries than the 2V batteries, from a different source and therefore their Kwh price is different. But, yes, you win.
April 7, 201610 yr Respect to both of you - truth be told I was REALLY batting for Plonkster on this one.

Hang on Silver, I was WAY too eager to diss what you're saying. First, let's not use the "sustainable" prices :-) I know a 12V 200Ah should be around 8.5k. It's a rippoff, it should be less, but that's closer to what others might charge, about 8% below the "sustainable" price. Now lets apply the same discount to the 2V cell. 12V battery then costs R8500. 2V battery costs R1550. I assume they have similar cycle lifes. I can't check because I can't find a darn spec document for the 2V cell. At this point you can already see the 12V is going to win. 1550*6 = 9300, and 9300 >> 8500. Now the calcs: 12V battery: 200Ah * 12V * 3000 cycles * 50% = 3600kwh 8500/3600 = R2.36. Now look at the 2V model: 200Ah * 2V * 3000 cycles * 50% = 600kwh 1550/600 = R2.58 The LC still doesn't win... but it's at least on par with our "benchmark" Trojan. There is another angle on this: Buy the LC now, and you "price lock" for double the time that you do with the Trojan. At some point, Eskom is going to raise prices again. This is to say... it MIGHT just start to make economic sense to go with the LC. But... as I said... we're paying too much for it. Edit: Fixed some of my math.
April 7, 201610 yr Also, I think I need to eat even more humble Pie. http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/224541612/2v_400_A_H_Deltec_Betta_LEAD_CRYSTAL_BATTERY.html Perhaps not the best of sources, but here it shows that you might get up to 3100 cycles at 80% DoD (once again assuming this 400Ah model is similar to the 200Ah model). If that be the case: 200*2*3100*0.8 = 992kwh And using the "sustainable" price: 1727/992 = R1.74 Accept my humble apology. I think you were right all along.
April 7, 201610 yr Official PDF suggesting that 3000@50% is probably closer to the truth... So quite frankly... it's a damn gamble. CNFJ-200.pdf
April 10, 201610 yr Hi guys, attached are the current data sheets for the 2V 200Ah and the 12V 200Ah. Unfortunately I cannot comment on prices of the batteries as SA is not my area of business. The last 12V 200Ah batteries I sold here in Namibia was sold at approx R4500 excl. VAT. That should change the outcome of the calculations somewhat. CNFJ-200.pdf 6_CNFJ-200.pdf

April 12, 201610 yr Cheetah, how much do those 200Ah batteries weigh? I'm heading that way first week in May.
