Morning PowerForum

I am a newbie when it comes to Solar , Battery back up and Inverteres .
With Eskom being what it is , i am starting to look into a smallish battery back up system .

I have one at the moment for my fishroom - A OmniPower Caddy Power Backup System with 100Ah Gel Battery, Modified Sine Wave, 1000W Inverter/Charger . It works perfectly for my fishroom .

Now i want to setup another one for my TV , TV Box , WIFI and some spotlights outside .

I bought a FIVE STAR 1000VA/800W PURE SINE WAVE HYBRID INVERTER WITH BUILT-IN 40 AMP MPPT .

I will be setting it up as follows :

Inverter : Connected to AC power . AC power out to a DB box with various breakers for TV section , Fish room and Outdoor lights .

Batteries : 5 x 100AH Gel batteries ( 12V 500AH system)

Battery Positives will all run to a central bus bar aswell as the Negatives will run to their own bus bar(all cables will be of the same length 1m) . See attached picture .

Where do i need to put in breakers/cut offs/fuses and also sizes ?
What gauge wires do i need to run to the various components ?

Batteries - Do i need to have 1 fuse per battery or can i only use a fuse/cut off between bus bar and inverter ?
What size fuses/cut off will be needed ?
What size wire will i need to run from the battery to the bus bar (1m lenght) and also wire size from bus bar to Inverter ?

Inverter - Do i need a Cut off/Breaker between the AC in and the Inverter ? If yes what size ?

Load - 500w
TV - 150w
TV Box - 50w
WIFI - 50w
Outdoor lights -100w (10 x 10w LED Spotlights)
Fan in the summer - 150w

Only used when there is Load Shedding .

Thanking you in advance .

Make sure your mains breaker in your DB is not rated above the maximum continuous load rating of the inverter 800 Watt  the breaker will trip and save your inverter if you accidentally over load it so a 5 amp breaker is rated to high that will allow a load of 1100 Watt correct me if I am wrong.

Batteries : 5 x 100AH Gel batteries ( 12V 500AH system)

Battery Positives will all run to a central bus bar aswell as the Negatives will run to their own bus bar(all cables will be of the same length Correct however your link cables between the batteries need to be the same length and as short as possible and the shorter the cable length between the battery bank and the inverter the less your DC loss would be because DC loss is very high at 12 Volt) . See attached picture . Please view the attached picture of the recommended battery configuration for 12 v Parallel configuration current always flows in a loop or circuit and takes the shortest route.

Where do i need to put in breakers/cut offs/fuses and also sizes ? You will need fuses between your Solar Panels and Inverter MPPT or Solar input rated for the voltage and amp rating of the solar panels
What gauge wires do i need to run to the various components ? Solar Cable 4 mm Should be fine Ac wires due to the low loads will 2.5 mm suffice correct me if I am wrong.

Batteries - Do i need to have 1 fuse per battery or can i only use a fuse/cut off between bus bar and inverter ? Your Fuses and Breakers should be between the Inverter and the battery bank and should be rated to the maximum DC current draw of your inverter in this case Around 85 amps +-
What size fuses/cut off will be needed ?Around 85 amps +-
What size wire will i need to run from the battery to the bus bar (1m lenght) and also wire size from bus bar to Inverter ? Recommended Cable thickness for the Battery cable at a Max Load of Around 85 Amp 12 V DC or around a 1000 Watt at 12V DC is 2/0 AWG  70 mm2  Cable rather safe than sorry.

Inverter - Do i need a Cut off/Breaker between the AC in and the Inverter ? If yes what size ? Yes the inverter has a 20/10 Amp Internal Charger as far as I can see as there is very little documentation available on it I would recommend a 25 amp Ac Breaker to feed the inverter

Load - 500w
TV - 150w
TV Box - 50w
WIFI - 50w
Outdoor lights -100w (10 x 10w LED Spotlights)
Fan in the summer - 150w

If your loads are 500 Watt in total the inverter should handle it comfortably however you should never load an inverter continuously above 80% of its Rating

In this case   640 Watt

Only used when there is Load Shedding .

Thanking you in advance .

Hey there! Do you still need help? If yes, I may provide you with the contacts of the company, which solar panels I installed. They operate in Northern California, Nevada, and Texas. Their consultants are very helpful in guiding you to make an informed decision and I think, they will assist you as well. The company also has battery monitoring services and may be helpful in continuously measuring your battery health.
