Anonymous got a reaction from Yellow Measure in Power Forum Store Supplied Solar Equipment SUNSYNK InverterVery professional and neat installation love the attention to detail some of the best I have seen to date. Also love to see Sunsynk installs great Idea to mount the battery box on sturdy brackets looks much nicer than batteries on the floor. Also love the galvinized pipes used for the solar cables and earth cables really rounds everthing off. Even the Solar panels are mounted perfectly. I am impressed.

Anonymous reacted to Leshen in Pylontech vs HubbleWould love to hear what the Victron experts say about this. Is the Easysolar a true Hybrid or did they just pack different components into a box to seem like it’s a Hybrid?
-
Anonymous reacted to Chloe in Pylontech vs HubbleWell most people would need to install more than 1 battery and after being in the market for a few years one would think that Pylontech would have upgraded their cables by now or even just offer the option but still nothing... makes me wonder...
-
Anonymous reacted to Leshen in Pylontech vs HubbleWhy then does a manufacturer print an installation manual? Maybe the reason the installation manual is so flawed, is because they are not an installation company. But point taken, you need 8 Pylontechs to generate the same power as 3 Hubbles.

I was blown away by the good pricing of the new battery (I compared it to the SecondLife 5.1 by Revov) and it compares very favourably with it out-specking it on every front except being 300W smaller. But I had never heard of LTE corp. My early research place it as a very large telekoms player which did not inspire me too much. However this url https://batteryindustry.tech/pylontech-launches-5gwh-lithium-ion-battery-project-in-china/ allayed most of my fears. I do believe this is the battery of choice for my new install. (I am probably telling the boffins nothing new but maybe some of the other Noobies will find value.) Has anyone bought an LTE yet? Your impressions please.

I have both the Goodwe and the Sunsync.
Forget about Deye, get the sunsync, it has better support and a better user interface for the same hardware.
Goodwe is a very robust machine, but not as finely configurable s the Deye/Sunsync but it does an exceptional job.
There is little difference between the 2 inverters otherwise.
Goodwe pass through current is 40A, Deye 35...That's about the biggest difference.
Goodwe backup max of 4600W, sunsync=5000W (Not really a big deal either)
Goodwe talks "nativly" to Pylontech batteries, beautiful.
Also, Sunsync has a ground neutral bonding mechanism that the goodwe does not (although there is some debate on the goodwe version of it - still nobody has actually come back with proof that it does work as suggested) - NB, no municipality has made an issue of this point yet so its not terrible important.
Is the additional R10K worth it, I don't think so.....

Anonymous reacted to Chloe in New here and want to go solarVictron is great but expensive. Kodak, good value for money if you have a tight budget. Mecer/ Axpert I would not touch. Goodwee VS Sunsynk I'll recommend Sunsynk everytime... Then you have Luxpower inverters, a bit more expensive than the Sunsynk but awesome product.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of Revov batteries and although great batteries the Freedom Won's are a bit pricey. Sometimes the lesser known battery options offer better value for money and service even.

Welcome Guss, I am also new here, so much info on this forum that helped me a lot already

Anonymous reacted to Solarphile in Shadowed for ages and jumped todayHi Guss
Welcome to the world of solar power. A world where you can turn lights on at any time you choose. A world where nobody else dictates when you can do a washing load. A world where you never have to miss your favorite show..... This is the best decision you have ever made.
We don’t worry about load shedding, we make our own power!!
If you need any advice on anything, we are ALL here to help.

Anonymous reacted to Energy-Jason in Shadowed for ages and jumped todayIt's a huge pleasure. I will also be putting up my own system very soon. I have been dreaming about it since 2013 when I started the forum. Please do document your process! Well done sir!
Sincerely
Jason

Anonymous reacted to Guss Davey in Shadowed for ages and jumped todayHi
Dreaming about solar... not because of Escom, but because it's cool stuff. Never got so far to make the jump. The >100K always found another place where it was spend (sometimes on very big white elephants).
Today, I made the dive and transferred the payment of my first solar system. (With luck on my side, I will be dead before the panels read their end of life)
Sunsynk 8 6.4 BSL Bull JA Solar 405 Mono's and all the other related goodiest
A very big thank you to the guys from Power Forum Store for the good prices, good courier costs and excellent service.
I will start a post on my build so that other can see how a newbie tries to figure out all this nice goodies.

Anonymous reacted to Henk in Camper BuildOnce I have the roofrack sorted I will add more panels, idea is to go to around 1500Wp but space is an premium.

Anonymous reacted to wolfandy in Pylontech Batteries - MUST Inverter SettingsCharging 74A (2x37A) or closest value below this
Bulk: 52.5V
Float: 51.8V
Back to grid voltage: 48V (this is where you need to play around and figure out what works best for you - and ensure that you stay above 20% SOC. The BMV will help you getting the right voltage)
Low cutoff voltage (when your system shuts down): 46V

Anonymous reacted to Jaco De Jongh in Series String MysteryOne other thing that I just thought of. The frame with the JA's had wooden legs and a steel top that was in contact with the panels. Sometimes if I touched the steel it shocked me. Went through the wiring and could not find a reason for power to be percent but did not make much of it.
Have anyone heard of a panels Isolation breaking down at higher voltage?
I am going to test that when the new panels arrive. String all of them up to the inverter before I mount them on the roof.
Want to see if the higher voltage could have been the cause of one panel partially failing.

Anonymous reacted to Jay-Dee in Lockdown Upgrade Project CompletedHello All
I have finally finished my lockdown upgrade project. Unfortunately I cant find what I did with old photos of my install pre upgrade but everything was replaced and re-installed
Original System
Axpert King 3K 2x Vision 200AH Gel Batteries 4x 330W Solar Panels (Risen) All was installed, signed off and COCT registered but there was very little safety included. I am not sure if regulations changed in the last 2 years or if the original installers just cut A LOT of corners. My solar shared the sub-DB in the garage and only had a circuit breaker which was way overrated for the 2S2P setup. There was no battery disconnect, no fuses, surge protection or change over switch.
Upgraded Setup
Axpert King 5K 1x Narada 100AH 4.8KW Lithium Battery 12x 330W Solar Panels (4x Risen, 8x Spec' matched Canadian Solar) I did the electrical side myself and got an independent to install the additional panels. While I could have potentially brought in a buddy and done this myself, some things I would rather "pay the guy". The system was then re-signed off by a 3rd party.
As it was lockdown and I was bored, I decided to add everything I wanted / should have had initially...
Battery disconnect, fused Solar combiner box, fused with a DC surge protector (on back order) AC DB with surge protection for the inverter, change over switch and return disconnect Visual displays of voltage and amperage for AC In, AC Out, Battery and PV (makes life easier when working on the system or needing a quick glance)
All in all, I am very happy with the upgrade.. I am 3 days in and projecting to be about 60 to 70% off grid in winter and 90% plus in summer. The only items left on grid are my geyser (smart geyser, uses very little power), stove, microwave and washing machine.
Some pics of the install...
Full setup in garage
"AC DB Board" with current displays
PV Combiner - Bottom row is waiting for the DC surge protector to arrive
Battery with it's disconnect
Sub DB - Eskom powered, pre inverter
Alternative Supply DB Board inside the house
In-progress image of the cable re-route project. I was not popular during this part of the job
Original 4 Panels.. They are being moved to the higher side this week to avoid shadows, we ran out of time on Friday
2nd garage new set of 4 panels
4 new Roof panels (rails still need to be trimmed)
