I heard around a braai that electrical COCs now have to be renewed every two years.

Now we all know that everything we hear around a braai is gospel, but I thought I'd check anyway. When should a COC be done and for how long is it valid?

As far as I know (I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong) this is only true if you are selling your house.

i.e. When selling, you need a valid COC less than 2 years old. So if the COC was done more than 2 years ago, you will have to do it again.

This is of course unless they have decided to change the rules.

think you need to update your coc whenever you do any changes to your wiring

Thankyou @Tariq and @Stanley. This is how I understand it. You must have a reasonably new COC if you sell, and you should update if you make changes.

I think that there's confusion between an electrical installation CoC and an electric fence CoC, the latter needs to be renewed every two years.
