Inverter 5KVA PWM and MPPT

Featured Replies

Hi, Thank you for welcoming me into your group. My name is Gianni and I am writing to you from Sardinia (Italy) sorry for my English but I am forced to use Google translator. I have been an installer of photovoltaic systems since 2007, and I have more than 500 PV systems installed connected to the electricity grid. For about 3 years I have also dedicated myself to stand-alone systems, the inverters I am installing carry the Advance, Genius brand, etc. but they all seem to be produced by the same company and seeing your (much used) Axpert Charger I believe they are the same product . I am attaching some photos for your confirmation, thank you in advance, then I will explain what the technical problems are, Ciao

The first photo (the Advance) looks like it might be a clone of an old Axpert KS PF0.8. Does it have a manufacturing date on it?

The green one looks genuine, except I don't see a small date code sticker.

The rest look genuine enough, but the devil is in the detail.

This is the burnt component in Advance 5KVA MPPT MKS5000 charge controller board, do you know what can be the cause of the damage?  Keep in mind that the plant has worked for almost 2 years without problems.

This is the one that I suspect is a clone. My guess is that this is the power supply PWM chip, a UC3842 (from memory, it might be another member of that family). Can you read the part number or marking code, either on that one or on an equivalent good one? [ Edit: my guess was wrong. ]

Is there a transformer nearby, probably with a MOSFET also nearby? I don't think it would be one of the 6 or so grouped MOSFETs, but it could be.

In earlier photos, the heatsinks seemed very skimpy. Was a larger heatsink removed for the photo, or is that how they are?

I just noticed that Q35 appears to be blown. R157 and R154 look a bit suspect; it could just be coating, or the photo.

I'm not aware of any schematic traces for the SCC boards, so you'll have to trace your own, or just test parts individually. Sometimes you have to desolder them from the board to avoid other parts confusing the tests. I see a lot of 10R0 (10.0 Ω) resistors there, that's a value that tends to blow when other parts are damaged.

If you do trace part of the circuit, please post here for others to benefit from.

Your last photo is definitely an MPPT circuit, with the two large inductors, not a PWM one.

Hi, I'm still struggling with the MPPT board repair, most of the components have already been replaced, I can't find the BX320 Schottky diode in a short time, can you recommend an equivalent component to me? thank you very much !

You need to translate your questions to English on an English speaking forum like this.

A quick Google search resulted in this:

https://au.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Panjit/BX320_R1_00001/?qs=sPbYRqrBIVn9GaU08Pa%2BIA%3D%3D

That's the Australian presence of Mouser, since that's where I'm located.

Any Schottky diode rated at 3 A and 200 V and in a suitable package should work.

What do I [ do now? ] throw it all away?

Perhaps just try to buy a replacement board. From whoever sold you the inverter would be best; Ebay or similar is a risky possibility.
