Sunsynk using battery for non-essential load

Featured Replies

A buddy of mine has just installed a 5kW Sunsynk with a Bull battery. We've been adjusting settings totry to optimise the system, but have run into a problem.

The batteries are powering the whole load, including non-essentials.

He has a prepaid meter, so is not feeding back into the grid.

Attached is a pic showing the loads and another showing the system settings. However, priority load is now ticked.

Any ideas on what setting to change?

That is pretty strange, if I have "limit to load' ticked the picture of the house goes away and it only supplies the ups. Maybe try to upgrade the firmware, not that it should really make a difference i think .

Firmware was updated on Friday.

We were trying to get the house in the pic, as the panels were not powering the non-essentials as expected. We managed to get that sorted, but now it's chewing the battery.

Help 🤦‍♂️

well as a quick fix you can set the soc 90 % so it does not go below that(on every line).

Edit. If you want it to power non essentials that's how it should be(with limit to load unticked) , and it will be using the battery up to whatever soc you set at the specific time for the ups as well as non essentials .

Thanks! So then it's about managing the SOC throughout the night.

What size battery is he running? because the 50% soc with grid ticks like it was is actually ideal for most scenarios. That leaves 50% of the battery for loadshedding , if that is not enough you can up it when you know there is loadshed coming.

Bull 6.4kWh.

I just prefer to step it down gradually over the course of the evening, to make sure there is enough capacity for a longer term outrage. But his night time idle load seems pretty low, so it should be sufficient. It's all trial and error at the moment, as long as we get the basics right.

He changed soc to 75% and caught it there, battery stopped discharging as expected.

Also still learning, Sunsynk 8kw with bulls. I have my setting like this. As I experiment and learn, I am hoping to get @Leshen on site to help with the Earth Bonding, and would have asked, But as we are on a same journey as you and I was to afraid to ask what you have now asked ..........  I am controlling my battery output like this. I seem to be to only one doing this. I also have the max sell to 40w. seem to remember this has a influence on back to the meter?? But not sure. Setting those to less watts as I have done means the battery never exeeds over the wattage. Why? well I should have installed 50mm for battery cable but at the time only did 35mm. Then I discovered that the battery will exceed the drawn amps on the cable. Yes I can change the cables, but lets learn first. This steps it down gradually nicely .....

Limit to load tick does just that. House gets no battery. I dont use enough on my load (UPS) very low use for now due to wiring setup
