Sunsynk 8kw with Generator Question

Hi, I have 2 x 5kw sunsynk inverters. They don't wanna take power from the generator. I'm off grid. Does the generator needs to be sine wave?

Eduard, apparently you cannot use the Aux port for a gennie input, when you are running two inverters in parallel.

You have to use the grid input side.

Finally got the generator to work properly. Hopefully this will help some else.  Here is what I had to do 1. Connect the generator to the AUX port 2. Connect the AUX port earth to

  • Hi @ScanlanGP Another option if you don't want to use the AUX port is to use a transfer switch to switch between the generator and Eskom.  I then use "Grid Peak Shaving" to limit the amount

The reason why I asked is because It depends on how it is set up. If it's servicing load and charging batteries simultaneously, your draw could theoretically exceed 8K, which isn't going to be possibl

Hi, Did you ever solve this problem.  I have two 8kW Sunsynk in parallel and have not had any success in connecting a generator via the GEN/AUX port.  If you have soved it I would be most grateful to hear how you did this.

IMO the 1st prize is to connect the generator to the Aux/Gen port so that you are not messing around with your grid settings.

I would only connect with a transfer switch to main grid side if you are using the Aux port for non-essential loads as it is just easier.

When first connecting it I suggest disconnect the grid and PV panels as it won't connect to the generator if you have any power coming in on the grid. PV panels so it is just easier to see what is going on, use the DC disconnect on the side of the inverter.

Check the gen boxes on the system mode screen are ticked.

Check the the Gen charge box is ticked on the  battery menu and set it relatively low 10A = +-500W

Switch the Aux port to Gen Input and tick the "Gen Peak Shaving" box and set the maximum amount of power that can be pulled from the generator (Load + Battery Charge), would set this to 50% of the generator output to start.

Start the generator and you should hear the relay click in as the inverter connects to the generator.

Once everything is working you can reconnect the PV panels and mains power.

The generator will not connect if there is grid power.

I have followed the advice in this and some of the previous postings. The previous posters talk about an AUX port. My 8,8kv Sunsynk has an AUX connector block AND a Gen connection block. I used the Gen connector block. I connected a 1,8kw inverter generator. Rated power is 1,8KW. What happens is that it connects to the Sunsynk, solar switched off, and loads the battery at 600w and supplies 400w to the house. Later in the day when the battery was at 80% from solar the Gen only supplied 300w to the battery. When I turn on the solar the batteries charge at 2000w. Why is the system not taking more from my generator? Which setting is limiting generator load? Gen shaving is set at 1500w. I have turned on and off the 'limit to load' setting with no effect. I have NOT connected earth and neutral on the generator inverter output.

Ok, it works fine now. In addition to all the tips in this forum I found something on the 4x4 Community Forum.

On the Battery Setup Screen - Try Gen Force Tick all except Island

On the Aux Screen:

Untick Gen Peak Shaving

Untick Gen connect to Grid

I don't know what worked, but now it works.
