    Just some info regarding DC wiring in SANS 10142-1-2:201x embedded generation installations. I guess this standard should be followed to stay on the safe side of things even for off-grid systems.
    Inspection and Test report (Section 4)Nr. 7 - Different circuits are separated electrically? - If this is ticked no it is not compliant!
    Again on Table 8.1: Inspection requirements. (DC system Equipment Selection and Erection) Nr. 26. The DC circuits are electrically separates from AC circuits.
    Then under Surge Protection 6.2.6 d. Where a system features longer DC cables, longer than 50meter consideration shall be given to screened, armored or metal conduit/trunking.

    Disclaimer: I don't have much experience with aux (yet, by next week my father in law's geyser will be on aux)...
    I would do as you're suggesting- all non-essentials on aux, wire and program correctly, but include a change-over switch to Eskom. That way, you manually manage your loads while on aux (and correct setup will disconnect aux below certain battery level), but you still have option to connect direct Eskom in case you need to run beyond pass-through limitations (seldom, but best to future proof from the start)...

    The maximum AC voltage refers to the maximum power that can flow through the essential load side of the inverter. On the 8Kw inverter it is 50A or approximately 11.5kW (50A x 230V = 11.5kW).
    Any additional power above the 8kw the inverter is capable of generating will come from the grid. For example, if you have a load of 11kW and sufficient solar or battery power available, 8kW will come from the inverter, and the remaining 3kW will be drawn from the grid. If your battery settings/state only allows for generating 4kW of solar/battery power, it will provide 4kW, and the remaining 7kW will come from the grid. However, the total power cannot exceed 11.5kW, as that would cause the inverter to trip out.
    Power used by non-essential loads does not pass through the inverter. Instead, the inverter feeds the excess power back to the grid, up to the point where the CT clamp is installed. This operation is similar to a grid-tie inverter. The maximum power it can feed back to the grid is equal to the size of the inverter, which is 8kW in this case. The limit to the power you can use on the non-essential size is only limited by the size of your Eskom breaker
    In the case of a 5kW inverter, the limit on essential loads is 35A, equivalent to approximately 8kW.
    These limits are applicable only when the inverter is connected to the grid. If the grid is off or disconnected, the largest load that can be supported is the size of the inverter itself as there is no griod power to blend with.

    Hi Tariq.
    If you watch the video. Keith is saying that there are users out there that are going beyond the max passthrough current of 50A and 35A which in turn are damaging the relays.

    Hi Louis. 
    This is not correct. The 8kw and 5kw limitation is purely a DC to AC limitation. The passthrough function is AC to AC so on the essential side, when the grid is available, the 5kw can peak at 8kw and the 8kw can peak at 12kw. Definitely will not overload as the balance is drawn from the grid.

    Pass through is on the essential side. 
    If the grid or another ac source is available then you can pull up to 35A on the 5kw and 90A on 8kw essential side.

    I must correct myself. After updating to version 3384, a new option appeared.
    Settings -> Battery -> Page 2 -> Low Noise mode

    Enabling this setting shuts the inverter down, "Grid Mode changed" appears on the screen and after roughly 1 minute it turned on again. Now the frequency is moved from audible 15 kHz to barely audible 20 kHz. This is a very huge improvement.

    Some great news - I believe Sunsynk have a firmware update to fix the issue! The high frequency noise has moved from 15khz to 20khz (nearly impossible to hear). Ask for your 5kw sunsynk to be updated to "M 3.3.8.4".

    I was just about to post, the mail trail I have had going with the Deye / Sunsynk engineer brought a fix this afternoon.
    They pushed firmware update 3.3.8.4, inverter rebooted (power went out on essentials) then they pushed a setting that made F13 Grid mode changed Fault (essentials went out again) then when the inverter powered back up the noise was gone. Can also see the 15000Hz moved to 20000Hz now. I am so happy the house is quiet now. So don't get a fright when they do this process on your inverters when the Fault comes in, I got a shock and thought something broke on the new firmware.
