  1. You can't have enough batteries! Let's go! 😄
  2. Hello! That's a damn nice setup, I have zero idea if you can go full on off-grid, I guess if your load is lite enough probably, especially with that extra 100ah attached. Yes PRO SOL is Solar ONLY, lol, it's "off grid" as far as I understand, not advisable obviously because most people don't have solar panels or battery capacity to last all night, I guess!

  4. I think it's a clone of this battery: Dyness A48100 100Ah 4800Wh 48V Lithium Battery Module
  5. Yeah it was a total power outage, so probably something with the battery then. Does Grid Signal option need to be on?
  6. Hey guys, how does this happen? The battery handles loadshedding except some rare early mornings? There's almost no load on it...

  8. Thanks very much, do you think the Inverter will cut off if this reduced discharge rate is lower than the load of the house? The solar should cover the deficeit but I don't think it's fast enough to catch the loadshedding outage to keep everything running continuously? Although, duh, the solar should already be contributing even before the outage as it's programmed to use solar. Are there chances that the inverter cuts off at night time?
  9. Hi guys, So is charging/discharging at 100ah a bad idea with lesser known brand batteries? I saw a Sunsync tutorial video (From one of their staff) that said keep it at 50ah even though some of these things are advertised as being 100a capable. How will this negatively affect operations? When loadshedding kicks in in the load exceeds the battery's discharge limit will the whole thing just shut off? Let's say 48v x 50a = 2400w but the load is 3.5kw or something the solar won't have enough time to kick up to support? Right? I think this battery's BMS might have had it, my folks are experiencing some weird random Low_Voltage cutouts on their new Deye 8kw inveter. Thanks. Below is a spec cut-out from a more well known Pylon battery.

  12. haha ja they're noisy as hell I put mine in a cabinet (about 1x1 meter open air inside though with door slightly open for cables but masks the sound fantastically. I actually have two 12v 160w (I think they're 160w) panels hooked up in parallel, it REALLY makes a tremendous difference for day endurance which subsequently gives you that critical extra for the evening if you have hectic loadshedding + local power problems. I'm at a stage where out of curiosity I want to add more panels, lol. For maintenance I don't know about 1000 but the 600 has stupidly easy access to the top panel you can shut everything down, remove the top panel with screw driver then blow out accumulated dust from the chunky heatsinks etc taking care not to physically touch anything as I still enjoy being alive, I give it a while with the top open to make sure any possible moisture evaporated from using the electronic cleaning compressed air can, it's just like taking care of a PC. This thing reliably takes care of you so you should return the favor every 6 months or so. Another thing I've done is never run it > 50% load, the local solar shop here in Parys stopped selling any kinds of portable inverter because the old people in Parys plug all kinds of crazy stuff into these things making them die early lol. It seems unreasonable load for long periods just murders any portable (small) inverter. These portable inverters definitely aren't all built the same, my parents have a small mecer inverter and the weird whizzes and whines coming from that thing is concerning vs the SPS which just chucks along at the same steady pace for years now, although I must say I take much better care of mine, I actually blow out dust once a while and take care not to go crazy on the load, I think the added solar panels also make a positive effect on overall lifetime as you offload a lot of work to the little solar charge controller and for obvious reasons your precious lithium or gel will also last much much longer. As far as solar panels go, the installation cost about R1500 and they actually ran earthing rod into the ground outside to protect from lightning, the two panels and rigging cost just under R5000 if I remember correctly, it's definitely more than a novelty as I said it does alleviate load from the battery and inverter (at least I think so, it's a separate board (charge controller, you'll see it if you ever open yours up for cleaning, it has a tiny tiny fan next to it lol) performing work) for a good chunk of the day and will make this thing last a looooooong time if you clean it out periodically and never push it very hard. I am sure you get inverters like Victron where you can push the inverter like a mad man while leaving it buried in a pile of dust and never have issues, but if you're realistic about what you have and treat it as such I think you can get the same if not longer operating life than the crazy expensive gear out there. I've now first hand seen an inverter explode, my parents "cheaped" out and got a 8kw no-name inverter, ran that thing at max with absolutely unreasonable loads IMO (Think 3 fridges, a pool pump, water pump, microwaves, tvs etc etc etc) while pumping insane solar into it etc and it gave up the ghost in a violent way after a week of being installed. If you buy a budget inverter you have to be reasonable about what you have and adjust your load accordingly or you're just going to be buying another cheaper inverter in a short while.

  15. Welp, apparently there was a huge bang, now error 51, surge. This thing hasn't been around for a week. They should have this setup removed and write off the R72k as a loss, or have everything re-installed by willing qualified people, this setup will kill someone. EDIT: I think we should be able to salvage the panels and battery at least, advised dad write off R20k for this inverter and he get a bloody Victron installed by proper electricians.
  16. We had a system installed at our complex, you can imagine how busy that gate is, and with loadshedding those gel batteries didn't cut it, so you have two panels connected to a PWM solar charge controller connected to two batteries connected to the gate motor, just make sure to check the gate motor's documentation, I know Centurion actually sells their own addon solar charge controllers etc. We swapped to lithium batteries as well recently and added a voltage regulator.
  17. R920 pm goes a hell of a long way to paying your property taxes and stuff, it's still a nice incentive!
  18. lol no not pro-solar BUT what you CAN do is buy one of those fancy smart plugs, you can set it to only supply AC mains power at certain schedules and if the weather is cloudy etc, it runs off an app on your phone which hopefully has access to the internet where it can pull weather forecasts etc, very high tech solution really. Hell you can buy two of them if you want to see a proper reading of what your load is etc, they're very handy and aren't too expensive these days.
  19. I actually took off the top cover the other day and took a can of compressed air to everything, will make a habit to do this every few months.
  20. My setup is nothing fancy, it's in its natural habitat, on the ground LOL, they did a neat job of installing the two small panels though, make sure they're 12v, they also earthed them by drilling a rod into the ground outside. I actually had a mail chat with the supplier they said don't worry about the indicator thing, that's normal for this inverter not to be able to properly read lithium levels, I've been lucky though so far I think I only hit the bottom of the DoD like twice, I don't power too much with it. Absolutely recommend the solar it really makes this thing last longer. The two panels are connected in parallel for getting higher amps, and the solar guy set the solar charge amp to 20a I think, even though these two panels should only get you 10a, they do sometimes climb higher when the sun is very perfect. But think about this before buying panels, these are 12v panels, your "standard" seems to be the big stuff that's 48v etc, so if you ever upgrade to a big db board connected setup, you'll have to ditch these panels, so keep that in mind, but second hand market you not going to struggle to sell anything power generation related.
  21. Hi guys, Just a random question, can you keep one of these things in an empty clothes closet? Just asking because the noise of mine's fan is driving me nuts, it doesn't seem very intelligent and just cranks it to full speed every once in a while. It's a small 600w / 12v system. Thanks
