  3. Hi all I've been scanning through the forum trying to get a feel for a 'safe bet' budget inverter brand/model- a 'Sunsynk of the cheapies' so to speak, but can't see to find a solid recommendation. My budget doesn't allow for a complete system with Sunsynk 5kW, Dyness and panels - that would be my obvious route but for now I'd rather go for a complete system than just a Sunsynk and a 50ah battery. What I currently have: - Rentech 500w portable power station connected to a secondary "essentials" DB - which powers pretty much everything in the house except the kitchen and geyser. The issue with this setup is that it is a manual switch over and the 500w output can't run things like the fridge. What I'd like to power which I can't currently: - Fridge, freezer, and microwave if I can (but not a must) - My typical house draw (excl. geyser, kitchen and fridge-freezer) is around 200w Ideal configuration: - Operate as close to off-grid as possible / run all but the heaviest appliances off the inverter/battery/solar system - Inverter be able to blend solar and/or battery/grid to efficiency and cost saving - App based monitoring if possible Any suggestions would be appreciated. - Can I consider a 24v system or should I just go straight for 48v? - I was considering something like the 'Lalela Hybrid Inverter 24V 3000VA / 3000W' (+- R7500), Mecer Hybrid Mks Plus 3Kva 2.4Kw 24Vdc (+- R9500) or pony up for a Luxpower SNA 5000 (+- R16 000). BlueNova 50aH LIFEPO4 (+- R10 000) and then panels. Many thanks again.
  4. Hi folks, Newbie here. I'm busy planning my purchases for a solar system and have a question regarding charging of a LIFEP04 battery with multiple power sources. If one has multiple non-grid power inputs (e.g. 3 MPPT controllers, or solar panels and a wind turbine etc.), how would one combine that as a singe input to the hybrid inverter/battery? Would one use a 'busbar' and wire all the 12v into this central point and then wire that with a positive and negative into the primary charge controller of the inverter (assuming it's in the voltage range of the hybrid's charge controller) - or would you wire it straight to the battery and let the BMS of the battery handle the rest? Thanks - learning every day 🙂
  5. Hey @zsde I'm looking to build a similar setup, however I'm a bit confused - those JA panels have a current rating around 13.08A-13.93A, yet the SNA5000 has a max PV input of 13A. I take it that means the rated Amperage input isn't a hard limit or is one flirting with premature failure at those values? Thanks, J
  6. Hi folks So I've done a bit of reading up on the benefits of Mono over Poly panels and vice versa. If I understand correctly, mono should give you an advantage (albeit slight) over a poly panel, however, I've tried to find evidence of this on the internet, from actual owners, and the more I read up, ironically the opposite seems to be true, that poly often outperform mono. Does anyone have any take on that? Does it actually just come down to which one blends in better with your house? 😉 Thanks, J
  7. Thanks Scubadude, noted. I actually had my roof repainted and waterproofed recently - I think in my case the optimal panel position could be tricky - but I'll let the experts advise me on that.
  8. Hey YellowTapemeasure, thanks for the feedback! I'll obviously need a bucket full of advice, but from the bit of research I've done, I'd probably be in the market for a Sunsynk 5/8kw inverter with either a SolarMD 7.4kw LiFePO4 or a Freedom Won 5/4kw battery bank. I've heard good things of the SolarMD units and apparently, unlike the Freedom Won units, they support adding additional units out of the box without limitations. Panels will be a second purchase most probably, after a professional roof inspection etc.
  9. Hi all First time post here - and self-confessed solar newbie :-). I'm in the market for a complete hybrid solar installation (probably going inverter and LiFePO4 with inverter and later solar) - but there are so many installers and so many sharks out there... on that note, I'm someone who likes to pay it forward, or at least, support communities that are supportive - so I'd like to know, does anyone have any positive experience with PowerForum as installers? I live in Stellenbosch and they seem to be based nearby so it could potentially be a win-win. I realise this is a loaded question, as they seem to be sponsors, so that's why I'm strategically asking for positive vetting ;-). Thanks all. J
